Our young women and future leaders of tomorrow from @st_marys_college_hobart had the privilege of spending a powerful day on Country at beautiful Bruny Island, guided by Linton Burgess. Through story, song, and connection to land, Linton generously shared his deep Aboriginal cultural knowledge, helping the girls experience and understand the living spirit of Country.
These moments remind us how vital it is to listen, learn, and walk gently — honoring the knowledge that has been nurtured here for generations.

Gumnuts to Buttons with Year 9 with our always culturally respectful and wonderful team at @shctas My sessions create safe, respectful, and creative environments for students to explore cultural identity, storytelling, and art-making, often culminating in a collaborative piece of art. The time spent with the grade 9’s speaking of truth telling and the actual facts of Tasmanian Aboriginal history had the kids in different stages of emotions. It’s a hard session to teach but it’s so important in the way of truth telling, biggest thanks to all of my student’s for your close attention, respect and time. 🖤💛❤️
As part of Reconciliation Week at GYC Hobart campus 🖤💛❤️ First Nations students shared a special afternoon with our beautiful Aunty Wendy, who generously shared knowledge of beautiful weaving techniques. Using flax and raffia, she demonstrated how to make twine and baskets, highlighting the cultural significance and sustainability of these skills.

On Thursday, wayti’s secret weapon, Linton Burgess taught First Nations students on the Glenorchy campus how to make clap sticks. Students learnt of the cultural importance of clap sticks as well as some woodworking skills. The students finished up by staining their clap sticks with ochre to protect them and enhance the colour of the wood! Amazing job by all the kids!!! #WeAreGYC @guilfordyoungcollege
The Friends school were honoured to receive a captivating Welcome to Country from Uncle Rodney whose deep spirit and generosity set the tone for their time together. His words grounded them in this land, in our ancient stories and enduring custodianship, inviting us to walk with respect and shared purpose. As we gathered regarding Reconciliation Week, we took the time to yarn about what it means to us—not just in word, but in commitment. It’s about truth-telling, about healing, and about celebrating the strength and knowledge of First Nations people. It’s a reminder that reconciliation is not a single moment but an ongoing journey—one we take together, side by side, with listening hearts and open hands. Biggest thankyou to the wonderful James for your help in organising! @thefriendsschool

O’Grady track, kunanyi. Mother of Mountains. kunanyi is woven into our Dreaming stories. Our stories connect us to the land, to each other, and to our Ancestors. Our mountain is part of a network of places that hold the presence of our Ancestors. To us, she is not just a mountain, but our living Ancestor. It’s a place of memory, identity, and ongoing connection to Country and I was delighted to be able to share this with the wonderful kids at @guilfordyoungcollege including my blood relation Riley. Beautiful kids as always! So much kindness and respect!!! 🖤💛❤️
