🏆 Following the completion of the inaugural @waysofrepair : Loss and Damage program, we are very pleased to share two important briefs. 🎉 1️⃣ 📝The first brief builds upon the knowledge shared throughout the inaugural Ways of Repair : Loss and Damage program by critical thinkers, artists and #LossAndDamage actors. This brief provides reflections and recommendations intended to inform Loss and Damage policy making, response, research, advocacy, and artist practices, spanning considerations across policy making and implementation, upholding #HumanRights, transformation, #Decolonisation, #RestorativeJustice and #Reparation, #Participation, #CriticalThinking and #Pedagogy. 🗣️ ✏️🎨This brief has been informed by the invaluable knowledge shared by @alexispauline , @tjdemos , @dr.farhana.sultana , @zahrammm , @gabdematos , @nombusomathibela , @hlangananigumede , Olúfemi O. Táíwò, @harjeet_11 , @isa_bori , Andrea Carmen, Robert Albro, @ashishghadiali , @vivien.sansour , and @amalitower.cr throughout the Ways of Repair : Loss and Damage program alongside the valuable contributions of the programs coordinators @lena_dobrowolska , @phoebelaformidable and @teoormondskeaping as well as Verena Gresz. 🔗 Read it via the link in our LinkTree! 2️⃣🔎 🤔The second brief builds upon the coordinators experiences of running of the Ways of Repair : Loss and Damage program, as well as feedback shared by program participants, to provide reflections and recommendations intended to aid those seeking to foster transdisciplinary conversations and collaboration on the issue of loss and damage. 🎉We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all that joined us as keynote speakers, panellists, and attendees throughout the Ways of Repair : Loss and Damage Symposium. We are truly humbled and so grateful for all that was shared throughout the nine sessions. 🥲 👏 Once again we wish to thank all our keynote speakers and panellists: @dr.farhana.sultana , @gabdematos and @amalitower.cr , @alexispauline , @zahrammm , @tjdemos , @vivien.sansour , @nombusomathibela and @hlangananigumede . 📣Without you, and your tireless work through the year the symposium would not have been possible! 😎 🙏We also extend thanks once again to the @lossanddamagecollaboration and the @opensocietyfoundations , without whom the Ways of Repair : Loss and Damage program would not be in existence. 🫡 📼To all those who could not make it and for all those who wish to revisit, you can still access the recording for each of the nine symposium sessions via our linktree and on the symposium page of our website. 🌐 📚We also encourage you to read the full #TextsOfRepair from @dr.farhana.sultana , @tjdemos and @alexispauline and to visit the digital restitutions from @zahrammm , @gabdematos , @nombusomathibela and @hlangananigumede . 💻 💌Whilst we don't yet know in what form the program will continue in 2025, stay tuned for one last, very important, release from Ways of Repair : Loss and Damage, a publication sharing all that we have learnt! ✏️In the meantime please sign up to our mailing list to stay informed about our future plans!

👏We are very pleased to share @gabdematos ’s digital restitution, an insight into some of the research that they have undertaken as part of the year long @waysofrepair : #LossAndDamage artist research residency. 🔗 Find the link in our Linktree. 🗣️This digital restitution is available in both English and Portuguese. 🌳 In “Candomblé terreiros: Sacred Shields Against Salvador’s Climate Crisis”, @gabdematos explores how terreiros —the sacred spaces of the Afro-Brazilian Candomblé religion— through their ancestral knowledge and their relationship with nature preservation, could address the loss and damage being caused by the climate crisis in the city of Salvador, Brazil. By documenting construction techniques and spatial arrangements, she demonstrates the terreiros' microclimatic influence and their role in enhancing local living conditions in urban spaces in relation to climate intensified events such as heat waves. The project is part of Gabriela’s ongoing research on Afro-Brazilian architecture examined through an intersectional lens of race, culture, and environmental justice. 🌟 @gabdematos is an architect, urban planner, researcher, professor, and curator. Gabriela’s background is in Sustainability and Management of the Built Environment. She was a co-president of the Brazilian Institute of Architects. She founded the Arquitetas Negras Project, which maps the production of black Brazilian women architects, and is the publisher of the book Arquitetas Negras vol.1, which won the IAB-sp award for Best Architecture Publication. She was the co-curator of the Brazilian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture (2023) and won the Golden Lion for Best National Participation. She is currently a Master’s student at the Center for the Study of Diversities, Intolerances and Conflicts at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences. ✏️ Revist both of the Ways of Repair : #LossAndDamage Symposium sessions during which @gabdematos spoke to her research via our Linktree.
