Dr. Ian White Chief Science Officer of @ways2well says we share a common ancestor with every species on Earth, from Greenland sharks that live 400–600 years, to Galápagos tortoises that live over 200, to jellyfish that can reverse aging.
The real question is: if longevity already exists in nature, how do we find those markers in our genome and turn them on?

A 2022 clinical study investigated whether higher dietary magnesium intake was associated with better sleep quality and healthier sleep duration in adults.
The Study
Researchers analyzed data from 3,964 adults participating in the CARDIA (Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults) study over approximately 20 years. Magnesium intake was assessed through dietary questionnaires and compared with self-reported sleep quality and duration later in life.
Key Findings
After analyzing long-term dietary patterns, researchers observed:
🔹 Higher magnesium intake was associated with better overall sleep quality
🔹 Participants with the highest magnesium intake had ~28% lower odds of short sleep
🔹 Associations remained significant even after adjusting for lifestyle and health factors
These findings suggest that adequate magnesium intake may play an important role in supporting healthy sleep.
Study Limitations
While promising, this research also has several limitations:
🔹 Observational study design
🔹 Sleep quality was self-reported
🔹 Magnesium status was estimated from dietary intake rather than blood measurements
The Takeaway
This long-term study suggests that higher magnesium intake may be associated with improved sleep quality and healthier sleep duration. However, randomized controlled trials are still needed to determine whether magnesium supplementation directly improves sleep outcomes.
