So Nica arrived here and we walked up the mountain into the snow. It was almost summer here two weeks ago and now wet and cold, but beautiful.
The portrait was from a few days earlier. “Snakehead”.
The music here is called “WHE # 6”, at least until if, and when, I find a proper title. The Wayne Horvitz ensemble plays 4 Mondays in June at @royalroomseattle , starting June 1st.
Last fall I took the Royal We into Litho, the great studio in Seattle where I have worked off and on for many years. Skerik, D’Vonne Lewis, Geoff Harper. Andy Coe and myself. From the Royal We # 8, working on a mix and so far so good. We have some nice shows coming up this summer and again in December.
This winter saw the debut of the Wayne Horvitz Ensemble on Monday Nights at @royalroomseattle . Here is a track we recorded on the final night. After a decade of working with the Royal Room Collective Music Ensemble I decided to change it up, use a slightly small instrumentation, and wrote some new music. We will be back for 4 Mondays in June, starting June 1.
Robin and I are in a small village in Switzerland for 8 weeks. I’m doing a few concerts, but mostly practicing, writing a bit, hiking a lot, and above all going through hard drives and catching up on various projects, all in various stages of completion.
I am going to post some mixes and mixes in progress. Some of them fairly recent, some from the last few years, and some even decades old.
I have been putting the finishing touches on a solo record, mostly recorded in summer of 2025, and finally mixed and mastered. Release is set for September, Vinyl and download, on the Izniz label. This is the first 60 seconds of track 5, entitled “Carla”. (The composed theme comes later in the track). I will be performing a lot of these piece at a festival called “Piano City” in Milano on May 17th.

In 2003, Robin, Nica, Lowell, and I went to a small cabin on the Oregon coast with a few mics and a laptop. We didn’t plan it this way, but as it turns out it was a week after my mother passed.
Originally we were recording a children’s album for a series John Zorn was creating on Tzadik. That stalled for various reasons, and every once in a while I go back and work on it. This time I am going to take it to finish line, and it will be out later in the year.
There are 16 tracks, some of which are silly songs we sang at bedtime, etc. but also older folk songs Robin would sing, like the one here. I’d never heard it before and Robin pulled it out from I don’t know where. She is playing guitar and singing and I offer a little bit of harmonica.
For these next few posts, I include some little videos taken on my phone from near where we are staying, mostly of water.

Available on Bandcamp NOW! In spring of 2025 Wayne Horvitz and Robin Holcomb began a collaboration with Museo Casa Console in Poschiavo, Switzerland.
Wayne and Robin composed 15 compositions, each associated with a particular painting from the permanent collection of the Museo. The live premiere will be tomorrow evening (Saturday, 18 April) in Poschiavo, on the beautiful Steinway C piano on the 5th floor of the museum where the pieces were originally composed. The recordings were made in Seattle in the summer of 2025, on another beautiful Steinway at Majestic Oakwood studios. On Bandcamp, the album comes with a beautiful 28 page booklet to download with the tracks. We hope you enjoy the music!
