DOGS opened last night at @red.theater !
I could not be more proud of this (Jeff recommended!) show and this cast.
This is a play about loving something so much it destroys you. It’s about the tendency for women in competitive fields (maybe that’s hotdog eating, maybe it’s theatre) to feel threatened and insecure about one another’s successes, when we should be lifting one another up. It’s about the codes of politeness talented women are expected to adhere to (say everything with a smile! laugh along! prioritize everyone else’s emotions even if it compromises your integrity and work!) and the ways women are punished and vilified when they fail to do so. Not to be sentimental on main, but this has always been a deeply personal play, and it has become even more so in the last year.
I’m so excited for Chicago to get to experience this world premiere, and so grateful to all the wonderful folks who helped bring it to life 🖤
