Part of being a professional wedding photographer (and videographer) is having a knowledge of how to bring solutions to difficult lighting conditions.
When you arrive at a venue or location that you have no control over where people will be standing, you can either accept it as is and deliver mediocre images or apply your knowledge and experience to add powerful light on the subjects so that they pop and stand out in the image like they desire to.
This example images are from a beautiful backyard wedding I shot last weekend, in sunny Colorado. Congrats @weinheimer_hope
If I would have shot this ceremony (and family portraits) without flash, I would have not been able to retain the beautiful mountain backdrop detail that this view provided for us. I would have been forced to bump up the overall exposure so the couple is exposed correctly but that would have blown out the background and created a mostly white sky and we would have lost the mountain outlined backdrop.

We know outdoor weddings can sometimes come across as “scary” as you are co-hosting along with mother nature and its unpredictable mood; but if that’s how you envisioned your special day, don’t lose from sight that love and happiness will shine through no matter the circumstances… here are some tips to make your outdoor wedding, climate proof:
Outdoor and destination weddings can also be planned with ease, but take more forethought. Get your research skills on point… find out as much information about the area as you can -specially the weather! Nothing is more comforting than experience, value the venue’s and the event planner’s opinion.
If you’re dealing with a destination with stubborn weather, putting a deposit on a tent can be soothing; we recommend considering venues which offer an indoor option as well. Don’t worry, there are still ways to make an indoor wedding feel like an outdoors celebration.
Rain, wind, lightning or alien invasion… it doesn’t matter, an event’s success is measured on the amount of smiles and love under any circumstances. A wedding is a couple’s first challenge, face it gracefully and enjoy it no matter what. Learn to let go things that go beyond control and remember that real moments make the best memories and also, the best photographs.
