On Dec. 5th Celia and I became engaged! I don't normally make a spectacle of my life on social media outside of my career, but this is news I want to share.

Now, what you see here is burnout and depression. Take a look at these photos taken by the everso talented @amateurjalen 📸 I remember not knowing him at all but feeling so comfortable during our photoshoot. I asked him if I could wear my keffiyeh and he calmly said, “Of course.” Jalen is great at making his subjects/models feel at ease. It felt like a therapy session tbh, because I opened up about how overwhelmed I felt about school, the world, my own life. To this day, I still feel overwhelmed and sick both mentally and physically. Do our leaders care? Not one bit. I work so I can make money to survive, and while I’m trying to survive some of my hard earned money is divested into providing terrorists guns and bombs to use on innocent human beings. My money is being invested in ICE, so more families can be ripped apart and traumatize the younger generations. But if I say STOP with a loud voice they will accuse me of being the terrorist…. I remember last year someone said I looked like a terrorist, referring to my keffiyeh…. I’ll never feel shame for standing up for the oppressed, because I would want others to do the same for me.

These actors gotta be paid! I'm trying to grow since my last film, where I could only afford to compensate with gas money and homemade meals (although it was tasty). We have a diverse cast who deserve to be compensated for their contribution to telling this all too important story.
The message of my film is to take socio-political action and be in solidarity with Palestinian people, as well as all communities who suffer the oppressive system of imperialism. What happens in the US is directly linked to the genocide we are forced to pay for.

It’s time to show some highlights from last week’s shoot. “Sapphic Sleepover” is my first time directing a narrative short film and I literally could not have done it without every single person who was on my set. The cast and crew were phenomenal and showed a great amount of respect for the production. When the weekend was over, I was so drained 🫠 It took a whole week for me to resurrect myself. We still have some pickups but the bulk of it is over! Stay tuned for more pics and appreciation posts!

This is my first year observing this Pan-African holiday. I’ve always been interested in it, but didn’t know enough to seek it out. Growing up mixed, I’ve always had this fluid experience of being a part of everything and nothing at the same time. Being able to adapt to multiple communities, while never feeling truly accepted. This year I’ve chosen to become more involved in discovering my roots while creating my own unique path. Celebrating Kwanzaa, to me, is about growing awareness about the reality of being a part of a diaspora. I wish to discover more about myself through Black culture and cultivate the principles into my life.
Yesterday was the first day, celebrating Umoja, which means Unity! I spent the day with my parents and Celia’s parents, and I felt a lot of joy from seeing people I love, uniting together despite having different backgrounds ❤️🖤💚
So this is a new tradition for me that I am excited to nurture!
