Celluloid Hex is now available!
This book explores a selection of films - some well-known and some less so - which feature interesting takes on the figure of the witch. Across nine chapters (and ten films), Keri examines the witch on screen and the worlds to which she belongs, looking at the historical and cultural backgrounds which helped to shape the films in question.
Full colour cover, 120 printed pages. For more info, and to order, please visit the Warped Perspective store or click on the Linktree in bio.

If you fancy a new slasher in your lives, @darren_gaskell is here to talk about New Fear's Eve - an undemanding, but suitably gory love letter to the genre.

Children of The Wicker Man (2024)
In the opening scene of documentary film Children of The Wicker Man, we see one of Robin Hardy's sons taking receipt of some of his late father's possessions - notably reels of film, papers and production notes related to the 1973 film. It's this which prompts Justin to reach out to some of Hardy's other children - namely his half-brother, Dominic, and provides the inspiration for a film of their own....

Taking a break to work on a new project today, putting together a short sharp shock of an article on this classic piece of Japanese high weirdness. Should be fun! More details to follow! That strange craving for tempura...

Enjoyed participating in the most recent Darkest Margins book event in Stockport this evening! I read a little from my chapter on the soil as a liminal space: there was also some thought-provoking and engaging material on Lynch, Los Angeles and the liminal, and the Blade franchise (and its liminal lead character) as a Freudian push/pull between Thanatos and Eros. Massive thanks to @bavalamp for all the amazing work putting this book and all the events together! Lovely to meet the other authors too! If this sounds like your thing (and obviously it should) then head to @1428publishing to find out more about this collection of 24 essays on liminality. The weirder shit gets, the more threshold spaces seem to hold an appeal, so there's no better time than now to grab a copy...
His pioneer spirit knowing no bounds, @darren_gaskell continues a dauntless journey through the Video Nasties list with the frankly rather lacking CANNIBAL TERROR:

The Beast in Heat: one of the better-known video nasties of its day, but - fairly so? @darren_gaskell gets into it in this honest appraisal of a notorious title.

Reminder! My book CELLULOID HEX is still available in a limited print run and the reviews are still coming in. Film writing maven Anton Bitel (Projected Figures, Sight & Sound) is the most recent to share his thoughts on Celluloid Hex and I'm indebted to him for his kind words.
