รูปสุวรรณศิวิไลซ์: Metamorphosis in Gold |Nakrob Moonmanas | Curated by Alex Ungprateeb Flynn
A memoir written by a princess of the Bangkok court recalls a boy named Kanang playing hide-and-seek in the gardens of Dusit Palace. Emerging from this fragment of memory, Metamorphosis in Gold unfolds ศิวิไลซ์ “civilisation” as both aspiration and transformation. Through moving image, drawing, and sculptural assemblage, Nakrob Moonmanas traces the unstable processes through which identities are absorbed, reshaped, and made legible under modernity.
Supported by the British Council, Thai Film Archive (Public Organization), and the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture.

About the Artist
Nakrob Moonmanas (b.1990) is a visual artist based in Bangkok, primarily working with Thai literature and history as well as their discourse and relations to the global narrative.
His focus centers on exploring memories of Thai visual arts and cultures through the process of collage, as he endeavors to unveil and question them in various forms and dimensions. Infused with a contemporary aesthetic, the juxtaposition of local and exotic fragments creates an alternative chronicle, prompting a reexamination of the past.

Layered throughout her works are symbolic forms resembling the female ovary, reflecting societal expectations imposed upon women, while references to the Medicine Buddha embody the artist’s wish for healing and protection for women affected by social pressure and emotional burden.
Hidden wave and radiation motifs repeatedly appear within each sculpture, referencing the tsunami and nuclear incident that continue to shape Japan’s collective memory. Every detail within Imamura’s works is intentionally interconnected and become part of a larger narrative that reflects society, cultural identity, and the complexities of the modern world.

Once a gourd, now a grain.
What is lost as rice becomes?
In regional folklore, rice was once believed to be as large as a gourd, self-sustaining and plentiful.
However, due to human misdeeds, it fragmented, diminishing and dispersing with each passing generation.
Today, rice undergoes yet another metamorphosis: polished, diminished, and whitened to align with an ideal of purity and uniformity.
From myth to industry, the process of refinement continues through subtraction, so what loss?

Rice Dwelling
Present Before Purity
A grain of rice is often treated as food or as a unit of purity.
Yet within it, a life forms.
Once believed to emerge from stone itself, the weevil occupied a space between myth and contamination.
This work reframes the grain as dwelling.
If a life is born inside, in what sense is it an intruder?
