The beauty of Mentawai lies mostly in the fact that it feels so remote and natural. To reach this beach I had to drive my scooter through dirt paths (roads don’t exist in many places) which is an adventure by itself that would led me to paradise. Crystal clear waters, stunning landscape, free coconut and super friendly locals. Imagining this can be life is just too tempting 🥰

Probably one of the best views in the whole Sumatra. From the top of Mount Talang you can see beautiful lakes and also from very far the majestic Kerinci (highest volcano in Southeast Asia).

Yes, nature is just perfect.
Mentawai are know for their surfing spots but to be fair there’s so much more in this islands other than tubes. One of those places where I could easily live in the long term, paradise on earth.

This one had to be done for sunrise, no other option. And I was staying in Padang so the plan consisted in waking up very early, drive my scooter overnight and start climbing at good pace to get to the summit by sunrise. But it had been raining for a few days so it was a bit tough (to say the least) to get up there. When I finally summited o was presented with rain and strong winds so couldn’t see anything neither send the drone to see it for me. Waited for a couple of hours but it was just too cold and no signs of weather improvement … had to leave but not defeated! Couple of days later weather forecast was again favourable so I’ve done the whole journey again and … it was well worth! 🌋 the lake views with Kerinci (highest volcano in SEA) on the background were truly stunning!

Memorize this place: Taluak Sikulo
This place is just 60km off Padang and I found it by chance even though is relatively popular in the area. I was hiking through the cloves plantation to reach Bukit Ameh and ended up on the other side of the hills where this little paradise was sitting. And that’s the best word I can use to describe this place: paradise. Was so cool that I went there a second time with a couple of friends I’ve made in Padang. We reached there by walk (tough) but mostly people will get there by boat. Either way, if you are in Padang and have some spare time don’t miss it.

Hiking Sorik Marapi was one of the top adventures in Sumatra. The weather was bad (very wet), the path was muddy and full of obstacles and the arriving at the trail head was an adventure itself that involved getting lifts in the middle of the night and a long walk due to the access road being closed during the night. But in the end these are the memories that will last for long and combined with the beauty of the summit and crater (one of my favourite volcano craters from the ~40 I’ve been to in Indonesia)!
