‘This was the Batavia Motor Inne, but we called it Hotel California: “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave”’.
In Journeys of Belonging, Brenda shares her story of homelessness in her own words.
Photographed standing in front of the old Batavia Motor Inne, her portrait is one of many in this powerful exhibition by @centacaregeraldton Housing First Support Services, making space for people to talk about their experiences at different stages in their journey.
Journeys of Belonging is free to visit at the Museum of Geraldton until Monday May 18, when the Museum closes temporarily for essential maintenance.
It will be open to the public once again for the WA Day weekend, with Centacare staff in the gallery to speak with visitors and answer questions.
Reliving the iconic moments from last year’s WA Day, and we're still obsessed ❤️
Ready to do it all again? Join us from 10am–2pm at the Museum of Geraldton, Museum of the Great Southern or Centennial Park, Kalgoorlie!

Happy Birthday, Sir David Attenborough 🎉
To celebrate, here's a throw back to the time Sir David visited us in 2012 and was introduced to a new spider species named after him!
Prethopalpus attenboroughi was discovered by WA Museum Head of Terrestrial Zoology Dr Mark Harvey and Queensland Museum Research Fellow Dr Barbara Baehr.
When Attenborough stopped by for a visit, he not only had a chat with the people who named the spider after him, but was was also gifted a copy of the publication describing the spider and a mounted photograph.
In 2017, we were excited to cross paths again while he was in WA. This time, the Museum gifted him a 3D model of the Gogo fish – Materpiscis attenboroughi – to celebrate the attention he brought to the ancient species in his 1979 series 'Life on Earth'.
Attenborough’s lifelong commitment to the natural world, environmental stewardship and sustainability is second to none and our planet has been lucky to have him. 🥂 🌎
Research doesn't always take place in a lab.
For this one, WA Museum researchers headed into the caves around Margaret River, searching for fossil material that helps piece together WA’s ancient past.
Some of those fossils have now helped identify the first new koala species confirmed from WA, Phascolarctos sulcomaxilliaris!
Read more about the discovery on our website and imagine where your own curiosity could take you.
👐 We heard things were getting a little handsy at the Met Gala today.
If we were invited, we would have taken inspiration from the incredible dresses that have graced our galleries and collections, past and present.

As we prepare for WA Stories Ch. III (coming soon 👀), we’ve been reflecting on the moments that made Chapter II unforgettable.
Last year marked the first time WA Stories celebrated legends still living among us, giving us the rare opportunity to go deeper, into the memories, people, and moments that have shaped Western Australia in the words of those who lived them.
One moment that stayed with us long after the curtain fell... following Story 5: Richard Walley, his daughter @rickeeta_ spoke about what the performance meant to her and their family. We’ll let her words speak for themselves 🧡
Chapter III is coming, and what we’ve got in store is something truly special. Stay tuned.
