Though we quietly soft launched the WallyLoupe in November, we could barely meet demand from that day. Customers absolutely loved them and were amazed at the extra visibility of the cantilever they offered.
We now have another company making them for us and they are better looking than before. We officially launched this week and immediately got flooded with orders.

Last month WAM Engineering was invited by Maier Shadi of the @theaudiosalon to spend an entire day collecting recorded data from the prodigious #techdas Air Force Zero turntable for our research on stylus yaw (“zenith error”). It was an exhausting 12 hour day with two 15 minute breaks (well, Maier got a nap in) but we got most of what we needed captured and have been spending the intervening weeks analyzing what has been collected.
This data will likely appear in our scientific paper on stylus yaw, something we are very much looking forward to.

Here at WAM Engineering we are blessed to have many of the very best cartridges pass through our laboratory for our cartridge analysis service. When we care to, we can listen to these cartridges in our main system while controlling for mechanical variables that inevitably exist from unit to unit.
Before listening to this Kuzma CAR70 cartridge, we already knew it was the most mechanically ideal MC cartridge on the market due to its design priority of putting system rigidity at the top of its rank order. As a result, we were prepared to be impressed.
What I was not prepared for is the unstoppable impulse to listen to all of my records again. I have never heard a cartridge deliver a lower mechanical noise floor. Absolutely amazing.
Is the price an obscenity? To many, it will be. Unfortunately, the cartridge is such a sensitive instrument that the extra cost necessary to build a better mechanical transcriptor requires specialized materials and highly specialized machining and ablating. As more cartridge manufacturers begin to understand the sensitivity of their own product better they will make better design decisions that put rigidity at a higher position in their rank order of design priorities. As they do, the market will find ways to deliver rigidity for cheaper and more of us can begin to experience more of what is actually in the groove, waiting to be extracted.
A design like this points the way forward, in our opinion. We can’t wait for the market to respond, making such engineering more affordable.

About 5 years ago, we had the privilege of designing and installing a new vinyl playback system for Neil Young @neilyoungarchives and Daryl Hannah @dhlovelife in their Colorado home. It was a very special few days and their kindness and hospitality made it an unforgettable experience. Neil needed a very neutral and reliable setup to judge and comment on the huge amount of vinyl that was in the works and has been released from his archives over the last few years since then. Given how remotely the property was located the setup needed to be super reliable and “not tweaky.” As the alpacas and horses became more comfortable and ventured closer to me I have to say the degree of difficulty increased exponentially. Cartridge setup with a farm full of curious animals was a unique experience. Thank you to @wally_tools , @technics_global and @ortofon_official for the fantastic support. The team from @ayreacoustics deserves an honorable mention. When we discovered that Neil’s phono preamp had been inadvertently transferred to another home, the team @ayreacoustics jumped into action, qc’d a unit and drove 10 hours round trip on the same day to deliver it to us.
