March 30 at a rare seated show at @TVEyeNYC , Northampton, England-originated, Los Angeles-based post-punk goth rock legend @DavidJHaskins offered an unusual, intimate, vocals-only 13-song set, accompanied by longtime collaborator and expert NYC avant-garde composer/musician @Wallfisch (formerly of @Swans_Official ) in specially prepared arrangements of an eclectic mix of inventive 🎹 sounds, as part of a night of adventurous music and performance by fellow @Independent_Project_Records artist @_Alison_Clancy_ and operatic art pop satirist @JosephKeckler .  Haskins sang a selection of new songs, including the world premiere of upcoming concept LP track “The Beauty of Broken Dreams”, some with trenchant political messages (“The Rape of the Rose Garden” and the forboding industrial rhythm track-backed “ICE Too Cold to Thaw”), some older solo songs (the sunny self-referential satire of “Goth Girls in Southern Califonia” from his 2005 solo debut LP), and covers of “Dead and Lovely” by Tom Waits and “Vienna Song” by the late Pat Fish AKA The Jazz Butcher (for whom he sometimes played bass and produced), and songs from his earlier bands @LoveAndRocketsOfficial ("Rain Bird" ) & his first group, post-punk pioneers @BauhausTheBandOfficial ("Who Killed Mr. Moonlight"), all presented with morbid elegance and mordant wit by an experimental rock pioneer. Landed in New York at 7.30pm from Big Ears and went straight to #TVEye @tveyenyc to catch #DavidJ @davidjhaskins (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets) and #PaulWallfisch @wallfisch (Swans/Botanica) in duo. I am so glad I did that because they surprised me with this special gift: a world premiere of “The Beauty of Broken Dreams” AND dedicated it to me, no less! This gorgeous song that they co-wrote, is on the upcoming new album of theirs which I produced, recorded and mixed, also featuring #JonnyPolonsky @thejonnypolonsky on guitar and #PhilPuleo @philpuleo666 (Swans) on drums: a record I am very proud of! Thank you also to Joseph Keckler @josephkeckler and Alison Clancy @_alison_clancy_ for opening the night.
