The first week here in the Dominican Republic has flown by, adapting to the tropical environment and bagging the first 3 stages of @laleyendamtb.puntacana 🇩🇴.
Staying at the beach side @oceanelfaro has provided for some polarized days, racing hard in the hills in the morning then relaxing hard beach front in the afternoons 🏝️. Getting to finally properly hang out with my buddy @ulissesabbud has been superb.
The racing has been intense, loosing a couple minutes to Colombian @jhonrendon_jr on a muddy stage 1. Its been a battle between the Colombians and the North Americans as Ulisses has been great riding on my side. Securing back to back stages wins has pulled back the time, now holding a slim 1.5 minute lead. 2 more explosive tropical stages on deck to try and hold onto the overall.

It’s been a quality couple of weeks up here in the Guatemalan highlands 🌋 🇬🇹.
Hitting lots of the favourite training spots and exploring the area to expand the territory. The first week at 2300-3500m hit hard but the body seems to have fully acclimatized, now hitting all sorts of personal records.
One XC race was tied in down in the tropics surrounding Coatepeque near sea level 🌿. The new @yeticycles ASR 22.5 lb mountain bike is a rocket, took the 🏆 but more importantly got in a solid effort in the heat to prepare for @laleyendamtb.puntacana in Dominican Republic next week 🇩🇴.
In between riding has been lots of good times with the long standing amigos, many whom I met over a decade ago. It’s a long term race to see if they learn English or I learn Spanish first. For now we speak Spanglish.
Couple more days to supercharge the engine here in the thin air before dialling it back for the heavy race schedule on deck. 13 xc race days scheduled by the end of the month between 🇩🇴 and the final @bcbikerace 🍁 👊.

Guatemala has long been one of the favourite training zones in this World 🌎.
First discovering it back in 2006 on a bike tour from Panama to Mexico, I’ve been lucky to return over a dozen times, expanding the territory each trip 🇬🇹 .
The Western Highlands sitting at 2300-3300m around the city of Xela have become a 2nd home, typically in the spring season. This year after @seaotterclassic I couldn’t resist a $220, 4 hr flight south from California to sneak in a couple week altitude camp before the season really winds up 🌋.

24HRS of Old Pueblo has always been a solid early season opener down in Arizona 🌵 . Won it twice, a Covid DNF last year and now a 🥈 behind a flying Euro @lukaskaufmannmtb this season.
Every year it’s been a solid 8 hours then a system shutdown for the last 16 🙄. Pretty sure riding 175 hrs across Nepal in January just left the body without enough time to top up the reserves you need for a 24 effort. Nonetheless it was a good ride, covering 497 km on a flat and twisty course through the cacti.
Had a problem with the mtb in the middle of the night meaning most the laps were done on the backup gravel bike. Time to recharge and get some new rigs built up for this 2026 chapter.
Not sure what bikes I’ll be riding this year but I’m determined they will the lightest and fastest ships yet. Very grateful to have @rideshimano for the components, @noblwheels , @wildernesstrailbikes for the saddles and @maxxisbike for the tires to build them up when the time comes.. For now I’m having a Kona bikes yard sale if anyone is interested in a mtb or gravel bike let me know💰

Race season is about to kick off down here in Arizona at the 24HR’s of Old Pueblo 🏜️. One of the biggest 24’s in the World with over 2000+ riders and a cycling of community 4000+ in a pop up village for a wild weekend out in the desert 🎇.
Hearing some fast names were coming, and being unemployed now, I made sure I wouldn’t miss out on this one!
Coming off 175 hrs, 3000km+ and 70000 Vm+ over the course of riding through the Himalayas in January, it’s a fine line to capture this fitness & altitude adaptations, but I’ve learned some lessons the last few years and figure it’s finally dialled in. A few weeks of “rest” riding 10-15 hrs a week, with some intensity mixed back in, should pan out alright this weekend.
Either way it’s going to be a great experiment as I can’t wait to get back in the arena to rip some laps with the boys this weekend ✌️.
