We live in a fast world. Fast food. Fast news. Fast opinions. Fast, fast, fast. More, more, more. We’re constantly encouraged to multitask, hustle, optimize, and move quicker. But some of the most important things in life don’t happen fast. Healing doesn’t happen fast. Trust doesn’t happen fast. Relationships don’t happen fast. Behavior change doesn’t happen fast. That’s part of why walking is so powerful. A walk forces us to slow down enough to notice things again, our surroundings, our thoughts, the people beside us. It creates space for conversation, reflection, laughter, and connection. In this week’s newsletter, Dr. Sabgir reflects on the idea of “slow medicine” and why Walk with a Doc may be exactly that: people coming together to move, connect, and improve health one step at a time. Maybe slowing down isn’t falling behind. Maybe it’s exactly what we need. It’s #healthyvisionmonth 👀💙 Part 1 Your eyes can reveal more than just changes in vision, they can offer important clues about your overall health. During our recent Walk With A Doc, Dr. Reena Garg @ragarg927 shared the importance of protecting our vision and how eye health is deeply connected to overall health and wellness. Here are 2 simple takeaways from what an eye doctor wants you to know about preventative eye screenings: ✨ Your eyes can reveal hidden health issues. Conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes often show early signs in the tiny blood vessels of the eyes before symptoms appear elsewhere ✨ A dilated eye exam is more than a vision check. Routine eye exams can help detect serious health conditions early, even when you feel completely fine. Sometimes prevention starts with simply scheduling the appointment 👀🫶🏼 🗨️ When was your last eye exam? . . . #healthyvisionmonth #eyehealth #walkwithadoc #bethesdamd simranmd

The first Walk with a Doc Milpitas chapter event is in the books! It was so much fun with amazing community, great volunteers, and cute pups. We had a fun chat about the pillars of lifestyle medicine and then discussed the recommendations for physical activity per the American Heart Association as well as the Board of Obesity Medicine. Next month, we’ll launch into our series on chronic diseases. Next walk will be: 🗓️ Saturday, June 13 🕘 9am 📍 Gill Park, Milpitas It’ll be sunny so don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, and water! #milpitas #bayarea #familymedicine #preventivemedicine #healthyliving

What an amazing kickoff in Rockville, Maryland! 🎉 About 40 community members joined psychologist Miki Moskowitz for their first Walk with a Doc event. The group started with a brainstorm on the benefits of walking (filling a whiteboard with ideas), then broke into smaller groups to walk at their preferred pace and distance. Everyone left feeling energized, joyful, and excited for next month's walk. If you're looking for a community to walk with, we hope you'll join us! Sometimes the things that support our well-being are simple: time outside, conversation, and feeling connected to other people. This Story of Impact highlights @walkwithadoc and how one walk in Columbus grew into a global movement rooted in health, connection, and community. In 2005, Dr. David Sabgir invited patients and community members to join him for a walk at Sharon Woods Metro Park. More than 100 people showed up. “That day was truly magical,” he said. “I realized this needed to be part of the way I and other doctors practice medicine.” Today, Walk with a Doc includes more than 600 chapters around the world. The new Walk with a Doc program in Puyallup, Washington, is off to a great start! Despite rainy weather last weekend, they welcomed more than 20 walkers ranging in age from 3 to 93. After a discussion on understanding food labels, the group enjoyed a walk around the lake. "My heart was so full of joy, and there were so many smiles," shared Walk Leader Dr. Emily Bertani. "I can’t wait until next month.” Learn how you can start or join a Walk with a Doc program in your community at (link in our bio). . . . #WalkWithADoc #CommunityHealth #ActiveLiving #LifestyleMedicine #walking

On this day 21 years ago, David Sabgir waited at the park, hopeful that a few patients might accept his invitation to join him for a walk. Sure enough, many of them did. Dr. Sabgir describes that day as “magical”, patients and neighbors walking side by side, smiling, asking questions, and discovering that health can happen outside of the exam room. Since that day in 2005, thousands of doctors in 60+ countries have volunteered to lead Walk with a Doc programs in their communities, helping people live healthier, happier lives, one step at a time. What started as a simple idea has grown into a global movement, and we’re just getting started! Thank you for considering a $21 donation to celebrate our 21st anniversary and support the movement for years to come: walkwithadoc.org/donate . . . #walkwithadoc #nonprofit #community #communityhealth #walking
