The economy is difficult for many of us. You will soon see even more ads. You know which ads I’m talking about. What I can offer you is my first hand perspective, my experience and my knowledge. And it will not cost you a penny. Could you please read the last slide very carefully and send it to somebody who might be struggling right now. I think for a creative the biggest crime is losing hope. We can lose some money and regain it but losing hope and regaining it… That’s a tough chore. - Walid

The new Vanity Fair Italia cover by your photo teacher - me! I can be a little more honest with you guys versus my personal Instagram account. I have never walked by a Vanity Fair magazine and haven’t paused and wished that one day it will be my turn. It almost seems like an exclusive club, and not everyone will get access. The people who have photographed for VF Italia are Annie Leibovitz, Steven Klein, Herb Ritts, Mario Testino, etc… You have to have the right agent, you have to have the right manager and all the right connections. Well usually you do. Today it’s my turn. And I’m the first Afghan to ever photograph for a major magazine cover like Vanity Fair. Kinda blows my mind! What I hope you take away is… I did it without a manager or an agent, i drive my own career and I always have. And if you’ve read this far in, take this as your sign that you could do any fucking thing you want in your career if you work hard enough. And when you do get the opportunity, pull a whole bunch of loyal people up with you - 💚 Walid #vanityfair #tizianoferro #afghan #afghanistan

This is my first Rollingstone. This is with @tizianoferro a man I’ve had the privilege of photographing before. There should be more coming soon, this is for @rollingstoneitalia Also I’m trying to play it cool but Rollingstone Magazine is and always was on my Bucket list (plus another magazine I won’t yet mention). It’s literally the only Magazine I cared about as a kid, because I was so in love with music. And ever since I picked up a camera, it was a goal in the back of my mind. So finally, like 12 years in… Here it is. Shot on Canon R6 35mm Prime/Sigma Natural light (the worst summer sun) and the use of a big light grey wall for bounce. See you don’t need a lot of gear. Still stand by this message today. If you’re not realizing your potential, why aren’t you selling your gear on FB marketplace? Why even keep your gear if you don’t see what greatness you’re capable of? I mean that.

There is a photo shoot opportunity in every corner, different from the day before, better than the hour before. In fact, the light you get on May 1 is not the same light you get on May 3.. that’s the beauty, you always have to go hunting. It’ll be largely the same between a couple of days difference on the calendar, but it won’t be exactly the same.

I hear they have great products, but this advertisement was a derailment. So as a photographer, you have many jobs, and you overall need to guide every department. You’re not just looking through the camera, you’re looking at every single corner of the photograph. Some of you, the lazy ones, will say that’s doing too much. Keep that attitude up and you won’t be doing much. People hire you for your impeccable eye, keep it that way. We expect everyone to be good, it’s the ones that are great who will stand out. #sofiepavittskin

I know this. Keep making things no one else can make because they haven’t lived your life, experienced what you’ve experienced and learned from the lessons you’re learning from.
