@luc_nyhus brought me this ‘65 Martin 000-18 a few years back. It was easily in the worst shape of any guitar that’s ever come through my shop. As he said, it was found in a dumpster in Detroit. It had already been badly re-topped, the neck was reinstalled using Bondo instead of glue, it’d had a terrible refret that destroyed the original fretboard, etc. The neck, back, sides, tuners, and pickguard were the only salvageable parts. So, it got a new Herringbone-bound Sitka spruce top, new ebony fretboard, ebony “through-saddle” bridge, nitro lacquer refinish (body only), as well as a refret and neck reset (obviously). I wasn’t necessarily going for vintage accuracy since it had already been so mangled. I just wanted it to look and sound great. I’m really pleased with how this one turned out.
