DJ Spotlight: Vitling
Vitling is a self-described music producer, artist, programmer and DJ based in Berlin. A resident DJ at both Tipsy Bear and Silly Little Rave, his broad taste and knowledge of dance music history spans disco to donk and everything in between.
Craft you wish you could master instantly?
I think I’d say crotchet, because I see some of the really cool 3d freeform stuff that crotchet people can do and I’d love to be able to do that.
Craft you actually do in your free time?
Does sewing clothes count? I make and remake a lot of my own clothes - in between the rest of my life that’s very screen-focused I really enjoy the hands-on nature of working with fabric and shapes; and the other benefit is being able to quite literally wear my creativity on the outside. I guess that’s the closest I come to crafting unless you count cooking or code as “craft” (which I do but many people would disagree).
What vibes will your set bring to our crafting?
I’ll be serving up a handpicked selection of warm grooves, smooth vocals and forgotten gems to soundtrack your afternoon.

NEW RELEASE: Vitling - Feel Alright
When I was a kid aged about 9-10, I received a tiny pocket FM radio with earbuds as a birthday gift. It was the first time I was able to listen to music by myself and start to curate my own taste in music. I used to listen to the Radio 1 Top 40 countdown on Sunday afternoons to hear all the pop music, but after that was a show called “Dance Anthems” with Dave Pearce. It was around 1998, so cheesy euphoric trance music was really in its peak era and I became instantly obsessed. Ferry Corsten, Binary Finary, Chicane, ATB and so many more. It is also the time in my life when I first started experimenting with making music on the computer, back when trackers and MOD files were king, but that’s a story for another day.
The A-side of this record - I Feel Alright - is a love letter to that era, with its euphoric driving groove, classic feel-good vocal samples and unnecessarily epic arpeggiated synth riffs.
The B-side - You Feel Alright? - reworks those same vocal samples and synth sounds into something completely different, making some kind of emo post-trance hyperpop thing.

Ritualz - DOWN (bow church Remix)
Mexico City based artist @ritualz is one of the original names I remember from the scene way back when I was starting with bow church in 2011, my friends kept telling me about this “Ghetto Ass Witch” track that I had to hear immediately. His music helped shape the sound of a new wave of dark electronic music that was emerging at the time which I was later to become a part of; so I was very excited when he recently asked me if I wanted to make a remix for his FOREVER (REMIXES) album.
It was a pleasure to reimagine DOWN into the bow church sonic universe, and I think the resulting track goes hard af.
FOREVER (REMIXES) is out today on @ritualz Bandcamp and streaming everywhere.
