May 9’s season finale features Kauyumari, a piece by acclaimed composer Gabriela Ortiz. Described as “one of the most talented composers in the world,” by Gustavo Dudamel, Ortiz is a multiple GRAMMY award winner whose work has been performed by prestigious orchestras worldwide. Kauyumari, inspired by the spiritual world of the Huichol people of western Mexico, alternates between moments of intensity and introspection, with driving rhythms and shifting textures that create an immersive musical experience. Don’t miss your chance to hear this propulsive work by this celebrated contemporary voice.
