🎖 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒅 𝒔𝒂 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒆 𝑩𝒊𝒔𝒘𝒂𝒍 Daghang salamat, CCAD and Studio Arts Batch 2025! I have a feeling this award was given to me because you say that I deserved it—but honestly I didn’t think I’d be awarded for something that should come naturally. I knew my UP journey wasn’t going to be easy when I first stepped into this university. But I was sure of one thing. I knew that being in UP, true excellence meant fulfilling your mandate to serve the people. In Studio Arts, it’s easier to be individualistic. In fact, it’s even celebrated because we want our identities to be known and shine through our art. However, I decided that the spotlight belonged to the communities who matters more than me, and so I dedicate this award to my Joya Curatorial Team @joyagallery.upc and Lanog Editorial Board @lanogccad , organizations that are really important to me in my college journey. After countless free drawing classes with @drawingclassfoundation and hosting workshops both inside and outside of UP, I realized the kind of artist I wanted to be. An artist who uses her art to serve the interests of the people, especially the marginalized sectors of the community—women, queer, elderly and disabled folk. An artist who forwards the calls of the masses through OPOD and Moomin-themed placards. Hoping to do more in the future! I think artists should ask themselves more and deeply reflect: Whose interests should you serve? your own? your friends? or the people? #Pagbudyong2025 #gradwaiting

The Kabilin Center Christmas Tree 🎄 E. Aboitiz St., Brgy. Tinago Cebu City BTS (Behind-the-Sin) Aside from the hint of resilience amidst hardships faced during recent Cebu calamities, the installation which is mainly composed of discarded metals or ‘sin/yero/corrugated GI sheets’ is a reminder that beauty can emerge from brokenness. Made not to romanticize Filipino resiliency, but more of showing the communities that there are brighter days ahead. Special thanks to our hardworking kuyas: Kuya Junard, June, James, Julius, Juvie and Chris for all the help— from collecting, painting, crumpling, assembling the debris with us, binuntagay rain or shine, all the way to the electrical wiring. | Design by Roy Ingente, Exhibition Specialist - The Kabilin Center | Created by Victoria Tanquerido and Van Gabud, Exhibition Dev Assistant

Last week, I had the pleasure of teaching Third Year Product Design students “Repujado”, a metalworking technique that I used in my undergraduate thesis—commonly seen in carrozas, crowns and Visayan figures like the Sto. Niño. The premise of the workshop is metal manipulation using repoussé, a more rudimentary approach compared to my thesis. Participants were encouraged to create their own tools, experiment, and explore hammering techniques that are best suited for the textures needed in their design. Definitely a full circle moment for me 𖦹, it’s great to be back in UP Cebu, not as a student, but this time as a guest instructor. Thank you to Sir AJ @aj.mallari for inviting me to teach your D-126 classes and of course to Matix Man @juanmigs.art for all the help prior and leading to the workshop dates itself! 💌 my DMs are always open for any questions and concerns for your plate production, ask away lang. | 📸 Matix UP Cebu

Hello everyone! I’m pleased to invite you to my first solo exhibition “Dukdok”, opening this 13 May 2025, 6PM at the Jose T. Joya Gallery Dukdok is a series of relief metal sculptures that sees the notion of labor as something properly artisanal rather than mechanical. Sacramentals are visible reminders of invisible realities—much like the hard work of gallery staff, art handlers and cultural workers. Here, the act of hammering is a kind of poetry in action. It goes beyond the integral construction of sacred objects and structures by pushing forward and commemorating a curatorial system that has been established in the form of medals. Dukdok does exactly this; it resists as much as it complies, it limits as it gains depth, it adjusts as it transitions. The exhibition is free and will be on view until the 20th of May 2025. See you there! 🤍 🔨 Poster design | Isabella Salas
