This is Gekko! And Wingman, and Thrash, and Dizzy, and Mosh Pit. We created this life-sized statue for @valorant - and while the concept and design has been running since last September, all physical fabrication was completed in the first month of 2024! This has been a dream of mine since I visited Riot Games headquarters in 2013 and saw the many life size statues around their campus. Back then, I was just one person in a modest sized shop. I knew there was no way to do something like this alone. The process was gradual; I built my studio, our reputation. We always made our deadlines and exceeded expectations. Clients trusted us more and more with increasingly complicated projects and NDA IP. We took some risks, and through the stress and worry, they paid off. I've been very lucky, and I've worked hard to take advantage of that luck. Over the last ten years, I've worked with some amazingly talented artists who have helped me reach this goal. The best look at our #armoredcore mech so far! This install was at a private game play preview event hosted by Bandai the week before #SDCC. Our crew flew out for install and to train the set crew for setup at future events. We wrapped up setup at about 7:30pm which turned out to be the *perfect* time to capture the lights and smoke effects. The thrusters turned out SO COOL! Actual. Functional. Fishbones. Launcher. This is Fishbones from @arcaneshow reimagined as a t-shirt cannon that we built for @lcsofficial ! It's live in Chicago currently launching swag to the upper decks of the arena. This cannon is wickedly complicated: two stage air charging system, double electronic solenoids, 120psi launching pressure and capable of shooting a shirt over half a football field! It's also bristling with LED illumination to really sell that Arcane blue glow. Body panels are glass fiber reinforced epoxy for strength and lightness while the tall fins are cast in urethane foam for durability. The frame is a custom designed welded aluminum skeleton that holds both the air system as well as the exterior body panels. He's a little over 4' long and weighs 15lbs! Typically I'd list credits on a project like this but everyone at the shop worked on pretty much every component! Mace-making as art therapy It was such a joy to create something just because I wanted to build.
