There have only been two times I’ve ever been able to marvel at all the stars ✨ in the sky. Once was on a boat 🚤 in the open ocean on the way to Georgia and second was in Atacama Desert. We got here the day after a new moon 🌑 due to a few flight delays and a rebooking. Even less than 10 miles away from San de Atacama, the sky gazing was breathtaking. I didn’t have the equipment to capture it but I did capture a few other wonders. I was very excited to see llamas 🦙 at the salt flats, the flamingos 🦩 in close to freezing temperatures, and geysers showing their might. It was strange to realize, a lot of the desert looks very similar to landscapes I see in the California deserts. 🌵 Not everything. There were valleys that were very colorful and beautiful that I had never seen before but there were a lot of similarities. If we had more than one night there, (darn you delayed flight!) we would have gone out much farther and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to stare at the sky. I didn’t figure out the best setting to take the last video but I’m still amazed that constellations were easy to see in it. Italy has such a rich history. I had the chance to go to Rome, Pompeii and Herculaneum to appreciate ancient ruins and learn more about many historical events. Some of it was enjoyed with friends, some I got to reflect on my own. While in Italy, I decided to check out Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi and I wasn’t disappointed. The views are spectacular, the routes are very curvy, there were so many stairs, the food was delicious and I was lucky to get good weather. When my friend asked if I wanted to go to Italy, the obvious answer was “absolutely-f-ing-lately”!! Our adventure started in Naples which had some amazing food, lots of history, and some scary uber rides. Enjoyed a short hike before seeing Monte Alban, which is just a quick drive outside of Oaxaca City. This ancient Zapotec metropolis had the best terrain in the Oaxacan Valley for agriculture and settlement. There are famous carvings depicting dancers called Danzantes that are assumed to represent victims of war. Enjoyed a ton of good eats and culture in Oaxaca with @e_rosete ! The mercados were full of fun things. We tried a few salsas with chicatanas (flying ants) and chapulines (grasshoppers), chocolate with gusanos (worms), some mezcal, a ton of local food (moles, tlayudas, oaxacan tamales, etc... They have lovely textiles and leather goods as well. We visited Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman, the Zócalo, the Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Xochimilco and Jalatlaco.
