07 - 30 May 2026
Open from today, Thursday 07 May with the official opening celebration this Saturday 09 May 2026, 4–6pm. All are welcome.
Void_Melbourne is pleased to present Basel Series, the second solo exhibition by Sydney-based artist Suzie Idiens. Originating from a set of small sketches made after visiting the Kunstmuseum Basel, the works pursue a precise idea: investigations into the formal consequences of a single intervention of a geometric form. One corner removed. A slice, a soft incision, cutting away at the edge. Each painting pursues this idea with precision and conviction: a dominant field of thinly veiled colour, held against a restrained incursion of a second colour at the margin. The exacting line where the two colours meet marks a clear delineation of territory on the canvas. Paint continues around the exposed cotton canvas edges, the work asserting itself as an object as much as an image.

With underlying themes of reflection and connection at its conceptual core, Stephanie Jook shares a collection of works inviting a deeper introspection on how we engage, interact and perceive our internal and external worlds.
Through using a combination of monochromatic tones, coarse textures and sculptural elements which evoke a sense of movement, a material mapping draws upon the interrelation between light and dark, the oscillating and stagnant, and the push and pull of our passage of time.
Above are a few close ups of works displayed at solo exhibition ‘Material Grounding’, a catalogue of works is available via email or dm through @void_melbourne

Nick Devlin's Neige from his 2025 exhibition, New Spring and the Cosmic Microwave background.
Devlin explores the process of gestural marks on canvas. The surfaces resemble a field of tiny strokes or cellular marks, creating a vibrating optical texture. From a distance the paintings read almost as color fields; up close they reveal the accumulation of individual marks.
Nick is continuing his exploration with gestural & layered marks through a series of new works on canvas, to be revealed in September 2026, echoing the qualities associated with optical abstraction and process-based painting; there is no focal point, figure, or horizon. Instead, the painting functions as a continuous visual field, balancing gesture, colour contrast, and surface texture.
