I’ve heard a lot of people over the years give me various explanations as to why generative Al can be useful to society.
Without exception, every single one of them imagines a world that does not exist, where the attitudes of its creators are for the advancement of society and not devaluing creativity as a concept.
I bought a lawnmower because I don’t want to cut all the blades of grass in my garden with scissors.
But AI is a plastic lawn. It looks kind of like a lawn, I imagine pretty accurately so these days. And of course it’s easier to have and maintain. But you’d be a fool to enter one into a lawn competition.
Art is the creation as much as what you create. No awards for cheating.

I’ve bought a home gym because my local one has increased its prices to such a level that it was cheaper to do this than keep going.
