welcome to day 1 đź’Ś when I turned 25, I sat down to reflect on my first quarter century of life.
my mind began overflowing with thoughts of what I would tell my younger self.
what would I tell the 5-year-old, art-loving child, the 12-year-old pimple-specked nerdy teen entering high school, the 18-year-old high-achieving law student who would soon lose the life that she once had, the 21-year-old silently burnt out eldest daughter working 3 jobs to make ends meet at home?
as I sifted through each memory, I thought: at what age do we become less good at being ourselves? at which life stage do we become so aware of the opinions of others and society that we change the way we live and express ourselves?
that happened to me at one point - I believed I had to check off socially approved milestones in order to be happy and accepted. but still, I ended up burnt out, lost and so far from happy.
recently, i was reminded of a quote my dear friend shared with me: “What you’re not changing, you’re choosing.”and so, I made the decision: to finally live my life for me, as me.
