👉 From empowering Indigenous communities to cut deforestation by 50% in Peru, to helping save $2B annually through food waste reduction - we've seen how data can drive real change.
⏩ But what excites us most isn't looking back - it's what these impact stories tell us about what lies ahead.
The next decade is critical for climate action. With ambitious targets like 30x30 and net-zero commitments looming, we need more than just technology, we need committed action and accountability. 💡
Want to know how data visualization is helping shape this? Read our latest blog post to explore our 15-year journey to now, and discover what we're looking towards next.

On May 8th this year, Sir David Attenborough - English broadcaster, natural historian and writer - turned 100 years old.
Today, we're joining the scientific community in celebrating him by presenting just a slither of David's commitments to observing, narrating, informing and protecting the world's fauna and flora. 🌍
One of his main accomplishments is probably how interested he was in connecting the broader public with the natural world - which made him not only an inspiration for scientists but also an icon to younger generations.
For example, in 2019, he addressed the crowd of festival goers at Glastonbury Festival 🎶 and more recently he teamed up with UK rapper Dave to narrate a special episode of his show, Planet Earth.
Swipe for more fun facts as we express our gratitude for Sir Attenborough's immense impact on the world and all of us! 💚

This year’s Earth Day theme celebrates our collective power to spark change for the benefit of everyone living in our shared home 🌍✨
Today gave us the opportunity to dive into the origins of this pivotal event and uncover some surprising facts.
For example, did you know that without the US auto labor union, Earth Day might never have happened?
Or that young women were crucial in organizing this nationwide movement?
Read along to find more about what happens when social movements come together and collective issues become the soil for collective action.
🌏 ✨ New Platform Launch: Introducing the Wetland Atlas, the first-ever platform that unites essential knowledge and data on wetlands.
Focusing initially on the Sahel region, it highlights the unique role of these ecosystems in supporting local communities' livelihoods. This tool aims to guide investors and policymakers in their efforts to protect and finance wetland conservation worldwide.
With comprehensive biophysical, socio-economic, and policy data all in one place, we’re bridging critical information gaps for effective action.
Thanks to @wetlands_international for collaborating with us once again & for @aberystwyth.university 's support.
Today’s #WorldHealthDay marks the start of a year-long campaign under the theme "Together for Health. Stand with Science" – celebrating science’s role in safeguarding the health of all living beings. 🌍✨
Climate change isn’t just an environmental issue, it’s a global health threat. Rising temperatures, pollution, and extreme weather impact everyone, especially the most vulnerable among us.
Today, we’re excited to highlight Catalyse - a pioneering project co-led by @isglobalorg , UK Research & Innovation, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation, alongside 21 other partners.
🔬 Catalyse has been uncovering the intricate links between climate change and public health, driving science-backed solutions to protect everyone’s health.

Today, we're proud to highlight our work with @wwfcanada . Together, we designed the Living Planet Data Hub: a spatial data and visualization platform that makes it easy to explore, analyze, and act on conservation priorities across the country.
🔓 From protected areas and restoration projects to carbon storage and ecosystem threats, all data on the Hub is peer-reviewed and openly accessible.
👉 Users can explore an interactive map, analyze data directly within the platform and generate custom reports across four key themes: protection, restoration, carbon and threats.
This tool is part of WWF Canada’s Regenerate Canada plan, helping communities, organizations, and individuals take action to reverse wildlife loss and build resilience against climate change.

Thanks to @mapleleaffoods and @walmartcanada for their collaboration on this project.
🎉 NEW RELEASE: Discover the latest research on the ecological knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), co-authored by our colleague Michael Harfoot, and four other researchers.
In a paper now published in Ecological Informatics, main author Filip Dorm alongside four researchers explore just how much ecological capabilities do Gemini Pro 1.5 and GPT-4o possess when asked to deal with ecology-related tasks - such as predicting species presence, generating range maps, listing critically endangered species, classifying threats, and estimating species traits.

👏 Congratulations to the paper's co-authors: Joseph Millard, Drew Purves & Oisin Mac Aodha.
♻️ Yesterday was Global Recycling Day, and we believe you do your best to recycle so we won’t talk about that.
Instead, we ask: is it enough to just focus on individual consumption? We’re globally dealing with so much plastic waste that it’s in everything we eat and leaves traces in our brains, the ocean, and even the top of Mount Everest.
Who benefits from this? 💰
To find answers, we’ve dug up some articles and reflections from experts like Beth Gardiner and took inspiration from activists such as Diane Wilson or NGO ClientEarth.
Our conclusion is that it’s high time we talked about plastic production and held the main players and lobbyists to account.
Swipe through our explainer to find out why plastic is everywhere, and stay for a quick reflection.
☕ Can you remember a no-disposable plastic society? Tell us in the comments!
On January 31st 2026, something rather odd happened in Quilicura, Chile. More than 40 people, from all ages, sat down in front of their community center's computers to respond to prompts sent to them from all over the world.
Together, they were basically powering a human only chatbot: Quili.Ai
In today's highlight of the week, we wanted to give a shout out to an initiative that we found truly wholesome in how it brought a community of residents together and sparked a worldwide conversation around the environmental cost of a chatbot - especially around water usage.
For a day, millions of users got answers from a rotating crew of volunteers. Some residents drew images, others gave tips for tasty recipes and sometimes, they did not know the answer.
Uncertainty is at the core of this experiment, reminding us that not having all the answers is why we - human beings - collaborate.
Explore the initiative here: https://www.quili.ai/
