Check your bias at the door Let’s unpack it together! 🌱 Ever judged a dancer before they even moved or wondered why you are wearing baggy pants and nikep6000? Lets talk about it. Your bias is showing. In this workshop we will dive into different forms of unconscious biases. We will reflect on how they influence us in the way we move and engage within the streetdance scene. With that being said, we are looking forward to exchange and learn together! Facilitated by: @juuustme_chy & @vivos___ 🪩 Vivos is a freelance artist active in the field of cultural education, project organisation and performance. Their work focuses on the development of educational and artistic formats for community gatherings and interdisciplinary projects. Chychy is a cultural worker, researcher and interdisciplinary curator. Grounded in African Diaspora perspectives, their practice centers participatory approaches and community dialogue. Through music, movement/dance and conversation, Chychy deepens understanding, challenges norms and questions systems of exclusion. Their practice is rooted in honesty over perfection and „doing it all right“—calling ourselves in as much as we call others in and reflecting collectively as we go. Circle Talks – The Community Round Table Circle Talks is an open discussion and exchange format within the framework of the kültüř gemma!-fellowship by Viviane Lê Tanzmeister at Kunsthalle Wien. Based on street dance and hip-hop cultures, in which gathering in a circle (cypher) is a central social and artistic practice, Circle Talks invites participants to experience gathering as a form of care, exchange and collective perception. Together we explore how our gaze – the ways we look at and interpret one another – shapes our understanding of the world around us using embodied and reflective tools. The monthly gathering will be rounded off with an open dance jam. The event is open to everyone who wants to experience contemporary art as a social space. Going Coconuts (& bananas)✨🥥🪚🤸🏻‍♀️ A coconut crafting workshop. (BIPoC only) Sunday 22 March 17:00-19:00 Apollogasse 21/2/5, 1070 Wien For a long time food metaphors such as: coconut, banana, bounty etc. have been used to describe people “seeming to be one thing/color on the outside but being another on the inside”. Terms like that often simplify peoples experiences and identities. We will craft with the material coconut and change, transform and reclaim its meaning while asking questions of belonging, identity and self definition. As mentioned before, come and enjoy the presentation of the work by our MOVING SPACE fellows and scholars in MEZEKƎRƎ in exactly one week, as well as the wonderful work by Tanzmeister @vivos___ is a freelance artist active in the field of performance, cultural education and project organization. Viviane's work focuses on the development of educational and artistic formats for community gatherings and interdisciplinary projects. Their strength lies in creating spaces and structures that invite diversity and foster sensitivity to intersectionality and power dynamics. Going Coconuts (and Bananas): A coconut-crafting workshop where we explore the coconut as a material through crafting. In various communities and diasporas, people who are perceived as culturally mixed and hybrid are described with food metaphors: coconut, banana, Bounty, Twinkie.. brown, yellow, or golden on the outside, white on the inside. These terms reduce often (complex identities into simplified boxes full of assumptions. This workshop is also a dialogue format in which BIPoC and diaspora individuals can exchange with one another about their experiences of hybridity, belonging, self-image, and identity.
