Last fall, one of the kindergarten dads died suddenly and unexpectedly from heart problems. For some reason it reminded me of a decision I made at one point in my life that when I was “older” and more successful I would buy a 4x5 field camera. So I spent what probably seemed like an exorbitant amount of money to 20-something-me on a camera that has no potential for work-profit but honestly just brings me joy. It makes me slow down and think, not about all the thoughts in my head but about one single moment. Here are just a few favorites so far, along with a reminder that life is short, do what you love, chase your dreams. And DM me if you want a portrait #graflex #film
The church marquees of Culver City kept me wildly entertained when I lived there and I would often photograph them with only slightly expired #kodak160vc #film back then. One morning, while stalking church signs, I realized that the man who had been in front of me at the supermarket had arrived at the next church just ahead of me, but it wasn’t until I heard him say “aw, man” or something that I realized he was Morgan Freeman. The coincidence seemed too ridiculous to explain so I just left without taking any photos.
I never do this but I’m giving up on the #catlabsxfilm80 and it’s impenetrable anti-halation layer. I’ve tried pre washing with warm water and warm water + baking soda but there’s still always a thin residue. Supposedly switching to a more acidic developer could help but I’m just going to buy better #film #4x5 #graflex
This feels a lot like accidentally finding yourself in your college ex’s neighborhood after 25 years and then being relieved that they look shittier than you do. #kodak160vc #film #losangeles
My favorite shot from the 4x5 pinhole camera I made recently.

The intersection of @officialneptunesnet , 2016 and my sister @hardstark and I in our Grandma’s backyard in the early 2000s. Both of these places felt like home for a while.
I’ve been seeing a lot more simple #photocollage lately as artists try to distance themselves from generative AI.
Someone asked me recently how I was coping with remote work with 2 little kids during the pandemic and I realized that (in addition to walking with my meditation app/music) I do a lot of cooking. People often say “that’s so nice that you care so much about your children’s health/your family that you cook them healthy/delicious food” but it’s really all for me... I’m a Jewish mom, this is how we #selfcare. 1. Jambalaya 2. Toast with smoked sardines and fermented black garlic 3. Kolaches 4. Gingerbread 5. Rainbow cake because I didn’t have sprinkles for funfetti 6. Carrot and zucchini pancakes 7. Italian wedding soup. #treatyoself
