VisualCreatures partnered with The Mill on the 2d cel fx animation and digital matte paintings for this amazing cinematic and the Valorant franchises first release in China!
We broke out a lot of pens and drew both frame by frame cel animated fx and digital matte paintings that were projected on to 3d geometry.
So many talented folks were involved in bringing this massive cinematic trailer to life, on both the Creature and The Mill side, and we are so excited to be a part of it.
We are so proud of our VFX work on Cherry, directed by @therussobrothers . As the sole VFX vender for a range of effects including huge simulated explosions, matte paintings, set extensions, CG, beauty work and 3D animation, we ventured into unknown territory executing remotely while everyone was working from home during lockdown.
Check out the film that will make you never want to try heroin, but maybe make you a little bit want to try robbing a bank.

Behind the scenes from our Fall Guys Trailer!
On the surface this project looks much like the other work we do here at VC. But under the hood we were trying something that had never been done before. In just weeks we raced against time to set up a system to get CG passes out of Unreal Engine and into a traditional compositing pipeline enabling us to combine CG from a game engine into live action plate photography. It was no easy feat but to Unreal’s credit we were able to quickly develop tools and workflows to be able to create the CG passes we needed. This allowed us to to iterate color, lighting, textures and animation at the speed required to deliver the trailer before the premiere at Summer Games Fest. Special thanks to this incredible team for accomplishing this momentous feat.
Fall Guys pushed us to find out how game changing Unreal Engine is in a post production pipeline.
Compositing in-engine animations in to live action plates is something we hadn’t seen achieved before, but by developing and building tools to enable working with a live composite, creating a shadow catcher and taking advantage of the ability to change lighting, textures, colors and more all on the fly really proved to us that this is the workflow for us.
Academy Award–nominated director Zachary Heinzerling and Story Syndicate partnered with VisualCreatures on the design, animation and look development that helped tell the story of a group of Sarah Lawrence students who found themselves under the spell of an abusive cult leader.

helped tell the gut wrenching story in this 3-part series streaming now on Hulu.
