Some places hold history in every step.
At Jackson State University, the Gibbs-Green Memorial Plaza stands as a reminder of the lives lost on May 14, 1970 and the students who fought for safety, dignity, and change.
What was once a dangerous roadway through campus is now a place of remembrance, reflection, and continued hope.

Meet Jackson’s newest ambassadors of hospitality.
Jaleah Gray is a Terry High School senior, National Honor Society member, and 3.8 GPA student newly crowned as Miss Jackson Hospitality. She’s on her way to becoming a professional athletic trainer, driven by a simple belief: helping people is her passion.
Jessi Lynn Turner, a student at Wilkins Elementary, was crowned Little Miss Jackson Hospitality. She loves dancing, riding her bike, and taking care of her little brother. Jackson’s future is in good hands.
These two represent what tourism is really about: people.
This week is National Travel & Tourism Week, and the theme fits perfectly: Travel: Postmarked Essential. Tourism generates $1.3 billion in visitor spending in Jackson and Hinds County, supports jobs across every sector, and produced $30.6 million in local tax revenue in fiscal year 2024–2025, funding infrastructure, public safety, and city services for every resident.
As Visit Jackson President & CEO Dr. Rickey Thigpen said: “Jackson is not just on the map. It’s making its mark.”

We’re ecstatic that our 2026 Chef Chair, Nick Wallace, is featured in the latest episode of MWB’s Let The Sparks Fly podcast! From behind-the-scenes festival fun to creative collaboration with JXN chef Hunter Evans to Friday Feast’s dynamite salad course, Nick Wallace tells all. And to him, food drives these flavorful experiences, one meal, one conversation at a time.
“Call your neighbor, or call someone you want to be your neighbor. Start with a cup of coffee, or start with a beer. Sit down, have some sourdough. There’s no telling what might happen after that… That’s the power of food and hospitality…Just sit down and see where the sparks might fly.”
