The worldās largest and longest-running dance competition starts today in the Winter Gardens šš¼
Not in its 100th year, the festival covers Ballroom and Latin American dancing and includes the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples, as well as the Formation Teams.
Across 14 days of competition, more than 160 hours of dancing will fill the Empress Ballroom.
Today marks the 100th birthday of Eric Morecambe, one half of Britainās favourite comedy act, Morecambe and Wise.
Blackpool was Eric and Ernieās spiritual home, where they entertained hundreds of thousands of people across seven different theatres in resort. From six summer seasons to the 1955 Royal Variety Performance, they performed over 1,000 times in the town.
To celebrate Ericās centenary, why not pay a visit to their 8ft bronzed statue under the domed entrance to the Winter Gardens? Created by renowned sculptor Graham Ibbeson, the statue was originally commissioned to mark 75 years since the "boys" first appeared on stage together in 1941.

The brand-new Ā£500,000 Kidepo Trail at Giraffe Heights is officially open at Blackpool Zoo!
Inspired by the Kidepo Valley in Uganda, an area directly supported by the zoo through the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, this new habitat features safari-style lookout points, extended walkways and interactive educational trails.
Itās home to two giraffes, Lily and Olympia, who now have triple the space to roam.
In an exciting addition, the zooās sitatunga herd has moved into a purpose-built stable at the opposite end of the paddock, allowing both African species to live and roam together.

Spotted giant dinosaur footprints along Blackpool beach today? Following a Ā£1.4 million investment, SEA LIFE Blackpool is set to open its brand-new Jurassic-themed ocean tunnel on 23 May.
The project marks the completion of a massive transformation for the attractionās iconic 500,000-litre ocean tank which has been closed for works since November 2025.
Later this month, visitors can finally step back into the tunnel to come face-to-fin with over 50 sea creatures, including blacktip reef sharks, nurse sharks and stingrays.
