5 days @bishopmuledays 🤘🏼 We’re counting down the days till we celebrate our sure-footed friends, the people who work alongside them, and the culture that helped shape our region.✊🏼 Before Gore-Tex, trail runners, and titanium camping spoons, there were packers and mules hauling supplies through the Sierra and helping build many of the trails we still use today. Over the next five days we’re celebrating with a few posts to shout out our most awesome friends: Fri: What exactly is a mule? Sat: History of Mule Days Sun: Mule Days Week: 🫏🍺💃🏽 Mon: Hiker x Mule Etiquette ❤️ Tue: Eastern Sierra Pack Stations: @bishopcreekpack @mcgeecreekpackstation @redsmeadow.pack.station @rockcreek.packstation @leavittmeadowspackstation @rainbowpackoutfit @virginialakes.packoutfit @glacierpacktrain @cottonwood.packstation Mules deserve only but the best PR and we’re here for it. 🤙🏼

Tioga Pass opens tomorrow, Friday, May 14! And for those in the know, today is Bike Day in Yosemite. That means a rare chance to ride Tioga Road through Tuolumne Meadows without cars as you take in some of the most spectacular views our region has to offer. If you know, you know. @yosemitenps Pack the layers, charge the camera, and enjoy one of the most unique cycling days in California. #recreateresponsibly

Mule Days is almost here! May 19th-24th, Bishop’s most beloved tradition takes over town and while the legendary parade down Main Street gets a lot of the spotlight, there’s a whole side of Mule Days families absolutely love. The Tri-County Fairgrounds turn into a giant playground of western heritage, hands-on activities, and memories waiting to happen. It’s the kind of Memorial Day weekend kids remember long after summer starts. And the best part? Exploring the fairgrounds is free! Check today’s stories for a link to the full blog: “A Kid’s Guide to Mule Days: The Perfect Memorial Day Activity” by Alex Silgalis #visitbishop @bishopmuledays

The High Sierra Ultra returns this weekend (Saturday, May 16th)! Big miles, bigger views, and some of the most scenic terrain in the Eastern Sierra. Enjoy rugged desert trails to towering Sierra backdrops. This race is as challenging as it is unforgettable. Whether you’re running, cheering, or just soaking up the energy around town, it’s going to be an epic weekend in Bishop. 📍Bishop, California 📸 @jenlaughlin_18 #visitbishop

Cutthroats from Crowley Lake are showing up for their annual migration to the spawning grounds. Avoiding cutthroats actively spawning will help these fish become a self reproducing strain in the system. Fishing the deep holes, deep runs and cut banks where the trophy cutthroats are feeding and resting is how to target these trout. Fish with size 12 stoner nymphs, size 12 green/gold Prince nymphs, size 12 Richard’s variation of a gold ribbed hare’s ear and size 14 copper John’s. For streamers use size 6 and 10 wooly buggers, slumpbusters and muddlers.

Wildflower season in the Eastern Sierra is just getting started. From now through early July, the blooms will keep climbing higher into the mountains as spring turns to summer, meaning there’s always another wave of color waiting around the corner. So if you can’t make it out this weekend, don’t worry, the season rolls on as the flowers work their way up into higher elevations over the coming months. 📍Pro tip: Every elevation tells a different spring story, so keep exploring. Have a great weekend, friends! #visitbishop #wildflowerseason

Crowley Lake is stocked and ready for a big season in the Eastern Sierra. Cool mornings, glassy water, and trout back in the lake, it’s officially time to get the gear loaded and head for the mountains. As we kick off another incredible fishing season, there’s one important thing every angler and boater can do to help protect these waters: ⚠️ Prevent the spread of invasive Golden Mussels. These tiny mussels can permanently damage fisheries, waterways, and recreation across the Eastern Sierra, but prevention works when everyone does their part. Inspections are quick, free, and now required throughout Inyo and Mono County waters. Let’s keep Crowley, the Owens, and all our Eastern Sierra lakes clean, healthy, and fishable for generations to come. 🎥 @visitmammoth #recreateresponsibly
