SCREEN PRINT ZIPPERS TUTORIAL
Save this video if you’re learning how to screen print.
This method is better for beginners and hobby printers. When screen printing over anything that is not flat (zippers, pockets, seams) you have to be okay with imperfections.
This method is not how high volume shops do it. This is how I’ve figured out how to get the best results with the tools I have.

DARKER TRANSPARENCY TUTORIAL- PHOTOSHOP
#screenprint #tutorial #doctoredbymf #photoshoptutorial #silkscreen
TIP:
•When loading the transparency paper, lightly lick a finger and touch both sides of the paper. The side that sticks is the side you want to print on. Load the paper with the sticky side facing you.
Step 1: Set your document to 300dpi. Set your canvas size to the size of the paper you are printing, in this case it is 13in wide by 19in tall.
Step 2: CMD P to print (on Mac). Change the color handling setting from printer manages colors to Photoshop manages colors.
Step 3: Make sire your paper size in the print dialogue box is set to the same size as your canvas.
Step 4: Printer profiles. Most printers have drivers that you can download on their website. In this case I have an Epson printer so I went to Epson’s website and downloaded the drivers for Mac. This is what gives me all the different “Epson T3000-5000-7000 paper style” options. For transparency paper I use basic 13x19 transparent sheets off amazon and I use the “premium glossy photo paper 250” paper setting.
Step 4: Printer options. In this box you want to match the settings to whatever you have loaded in the printer. For page setup I select “sheet”. For media type I select “Premium Glossy Photo Paper 250”
Step 5: Mode. Change from “Select target” to “Advanced settings”. Next, change the color mode to “off”, resolution to “max quality” and check “high speed” and “finest detail”. Hit “ok”.
Step 6: Color density. Under “printer options” click the “advanced” tab and open the “advanced media control settings”. Play around with the color density setting which will deposit a higher density of ink, making your transparency darker. I like 10%.
Step 7: Print. If you get something that works, great, if not, try again. If you don’t have printer profiles try different ones, I think the default “SRGB____” one will work if you still follow these settings. You can do it.

PHOTOSHOP BITMAP TUTORIAL
#photoshoptutorial #screenprinting #bitmap #doctoredbymf
Tips before steps: If your design is not merged to one layer yet, select all your layers, CMD j to copy it, CMD E to merge it. Copy and paste this merged layer into a new file. Bitmapping merges all the layers and by copying it you can do it without losing all the layers of your original files. Size your art to the size you’d like to print it before bitmapping. Scaling it after it is bitmapped will mess with the quality and mesh calculations.
STEPS:
1. Image> Mode > Grayscale> Merge
2. Image> Mode> Bitmap> Flatten
3. Now your bitmap is made but the layer is locked. To fix this go
Image> Mode> Grayscale > Image> Mode > RGB
4. To isolate the bitmap from the white background, select the magic wand tool (W) and turn tolerance to 0 and contiguous off in the tool bar. Click any white pixel with the wand and delete the selected white.
5. Once the bitmap is isolated I will often change the background using Layer> New Fill Layer> to the color of the shirt I plan on putting it on to see how it will look.
BITMAP MESH CALCULATIONS
These are the highest frequencies that can be successfully exposed onto the different meshes. However, getting a perfect washout is hard and requires a really dialed exposure process. I like to run 35 frequency on 200 mesh because it’s easier to washout all the detail on the higher mesh screen.
Mesh/ Highest Frequency Possible:
110/24 • 156/35 • 200/44 • 230/51 • 305/68

BRING YOUR OWN SHIRT PARTY
Upcycled this rig with @jrs__96 from a tool cart off fb marketplace and a 4 color press we found. We ran a test earlier this year at a party to make sure it works. Told everyone to bring a shirt and we each made 4th of July exclusive designs. Red designs by @runjackrun_ , blue design by me.
