Trained a custom LoRA on 45,000 timesteps of my artificial life simulations (slime molds, flocking, driven by human brain organoid neural activity). Then ran the frames through FLUX and SDXL to see what they'd re-imagine.

We are pleased to announce that the upcoming exhibition IEEE VISAP includes our latest collaborative installation, "Simulacra Naturae." This piece explores the brain organoid activity that drives simulated ecosystems and generative forms.
This work will be featured in the IEEE VISAP "Collective Care" exhibition and will be installed alongside other exciting artwork installations at the atrium of the Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien (University of Applied Arts, Vienna).
We are also presenting a paper at the IEEE VISAP paper session on our Simulacra Naturae work.

Revisiting the scene that integrates physarum and boid agents in the same world. This one runs with ~10m physarum and 40k boid agents. I disabled the interaction between two agent types to keep the performance in real-time but they do react to a global noise field with five octaves.

A quick experiment for mixing physarum agents with boid agents in the same simulation. The current implementation is crude, but let's see what other fun patterns we can get from this procedure. Even though the previous post simulates 30 million physarum agents in real-time, this particular version only simulates 30000 due to the lack of spatial lookup tables for swarming. I finally have a reason to implement an efficient one to remedy this bottleneck.

After a fantastic trip to Anacapa Island in California, I am inspired to explore these 2D simulations more. The ecosystem at the island reminded me of many of the sims on this account, and I think it would be curious to see them working hand in hand. In these stills, I am exploring constraining the growth of the network in a circular 'island' to force more interaction between the agents.

Iterating on the stacked 2D cellular automata. I think this 6-state CA seed is exciting because of the pleasant interactions between the gliders (moving cells in 2D) and pillars (stationary cells in 2D). Upon collision events, the information is transformed into new structures — increasing the overall complexity as the CA evolve. In "A New Kind of Science", #Wolfram shows that this type of interaction between moving and stationary structures often produces a wide range of other structures. Due to removing certain states for display purposes, the totality of these structures is not immediately visible here. However, I still like the fact that pillars start and stop on these collisions.
I used variable hues during the layering to connect the vertical color progression of the rainforests and the evolution of these CA. It starts from earth colors and transitions into leaves and to the sky. Semantically and aesthetically, I enjoy seeing resemblances between tangible nature and abstract structures. In the video, there are 4 growth recordings organized by their densities.
