Hi guys I’m back 😁 this is the sixth variation of Alan Schulman’s Theme and Variations for viola and I think it’s really beautiful. I worked a lot on the phrasing of this variation today, there are a lot of color changes and sudden dynamics in this one. 🌻 side note- I’ve been having such a fun and fulfilling semester, and a lot of my time is being spent on people and things unrelated to music right now, which I actually really love and I feel like I’m learning and growing more because of it. But I do feel behind in my musical development this semester. I also am getting interested in different types of music like folk and jazz and I want to explore that a lot next year. There’s a lot of exciting stuff going on with me and it’s really cool but I miss my viola. Yup that’s it love ya
I got a comment about this section last week that my right hand is not flexible enough, which makes my sound not as clear as it could be. I’ve also been trying out using more bow in certain spots to make it more musical 🎻
I think the Sarabande is my favorite movement from the fourth suite. It sounds like a lullaby to me :))
I’m going home in a few days for fall break and I absolutely cannot wait to see my family and be in my own house for a few days. My teacher told me to take a few days off of practicing which I am looking forward to because I think it will help me come back with more energy in my practice. I am noticing so much improvement in my playing but I’m ready for a short break. I also didn’t realize how much I would miss home, it’s only been 6 weeks or so and I’m so tired of living in a dorm.
I’m also trying to post more practice videos because I have really been slacking I almost never post on here 😂 I want them all to be my best but that’s not realistic so I’m going to (try) to post more often.
Anyway that’s all thank you for reading 😁
I’m playing the first movement of Walton in a masterclass tomorrow 😁 I feel like I’m moving past the technical challenges in this piece and I’m focusing more on phrasing and character which is really exciting. I also had a lovely view from my practice room today 🍁🐿
I’ve been at Oberlin for 5 days now and so far I’m having an amazing time 😁 I’ve met so many new people this week and it has been really fun. I haven’t had a ton of time to practice with orientation, so this is only my third practice session here. I’m working on cleaning up the Walton concerto for my first lesson tomorrow. After watching the video back I realized I look really frantic during the faster sections 😂 so that’s something to work on. But I love the practice rooms here and I’m feeling very motivated to practice at the moment
I’ve been revisiting the third Bach suite Prelude this week to play for my last Bowdoin studio class tomorrow! My goals are clarity of sound, especially on the lower strings, and bringing out the larger phrases rather than taking a lot of time at every cadence.
