Last time I saw #DavidAllanCoe was summer 2017 at B.B. King‘s in New York City. DAC performed the entire show on a barstool, ripping through all the songs he wrote who were made famous by other artists. He didn’t pull a crowd of fans wearing Stetsons or country fashion trends — in fact, we didn’t see more than a cowboy hat or two. The room was full of Carhartt and trucker caps, what seemed to be mostly blue collar folks from Jersey and surrounding areas who hung on every word he sang. My parents named me after this mysterious rhinestone cowboy, “David Allen,” so his music and voice have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
