Wir freuen uns sehr, am 11. September @viktorhubner zu begrüßen, der uns sein Projekt "The Americans I Met" vorstellt.
Zwischen 2017 und 2019 bereiste der deutsche Fotojournalist und Autor per Anhalter 41 US-Bundesstaaten und legte dabei über 26.000 Kilometer zurück. Ohne feste Route und nur mit Kamera, Tonaufnahmegerät und wenigen Vorräten ausgestattet, reiste er durch Städte und ländliche Gebiete und vertraute dabei ausschließlich auf die Gastfreundschaft fremder Menschen. Mit entwaffnender Neugier und Offenheit begegnete er Menschen aus allen Gesellschaftsschichten – vom Gefängniswärter über Vagabunden, Religionsführer bis zu Drogendealern, Cowboys und Schönheitschirurgen. Dabei erlebte er ein Amerika, das von tiefen gesellschaftlichen Spannungen geprägt ist, und dokumentierte persönliche Geschichten und Lebensrealitäten in einer der politisch turbulentesten Zeiten der jüngeren amerikanischen Geschichte.
Auf die Vorstellung von "The Americans I Met" folgt eine Diskussion mit Martina Buttler, ehemalige ARD-Hörfunkkorrespondentin in Washington D.C.

The image is part of the series titled The Americans I Met. This photographic and oral history project collects portraits of people I encountered during cross-country hitchhiking trips in the United States. With only my camera, audio recorder, and a few provisions, I covered 41 states and over 16,000 miles. As a result, I became an eye-witness to many Americans' practical and spiritual lives and the bearer of many confidences. This project focuses on the people I met on my travels, their words, and, by extension, the Trump Era in which they lived.
