Riddles. Lies. Stories. Secrets. These are the real tools of teaching, @portal.ido , master movement teacher shared with me on the BRAVE NEW STORY show.
“ We’re living our life through lies - it’s the cement that holds everything together... they are the essence of any transmission. If you assume everything is a lie, now you are at work, now you are at practice, now you are on your way to understand.” Ido explains like only Ido can.

Feeling stuck sucks. It’s also essential to growth. Here’s a bit about my story from corporate ladder climbing to creating my own lane. Rooting you forward wherever you are 🚀
Hair tells a story. Here’s mine: for nearly a decade, my curls have been every shade of electric purple to ocean blue. But why?
It started the eve before my 30th birthday party, watching @kate_winslet_official_ play Clementine in “ Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” In it, she sports a different hair color for a different chapter of her life.
It was revelatory. Here I was grieving the sudden death of the most important man in my life, my Deda, and feeling totally disoriented. Dying my hair electric purple symbolised a new chapter. After 5 years, I accidentally went blue and never turned back.
The flat truth? I loved this era of my life. Rocking bright colored hair invited strangers to start conversations, it made me feel powerful and beautiful. Years ago, I wanted so much to be an artist - and the blue hair sent that message before I could fully own it.
A mentor once told me I should consider toning down the blue, that it would be hard to be taken seriously for corporate speaking. It was loving advise that was also hard to hear. Would people really not hire me based on a different hair color? I was determined to prove that the work is louder than the hair. Within the year, I had the most successful streak of speaking and teaching, opening the Discovery Workshops at @ted ( the one blue head amongst 1,600 attendees). I’m proud that I never changed my creative expression to appease an audience or a pay check.
Today, I know I am an artist with or without wild blue hair. And it feels like a big new chapter just began, one where I return to my roots ( literally 😝) and move with an unstoppable sense of belonging as an artist.
I already feel lighter and brighter. Cheers to a brave new story as a brunette.
Extra thanks for the 5 hours of talent this took @davidhaircolorist 💓

The first time I buried this story, I felt it speed up the healing of a broken heart by half. Just a few weeks ago, I repeated it - and this time the brave new story felt even more true, more rapidly.
That’s what happens when storytelling becomes a healing modality- because it is. I see this in my own work, and I especially see this in working with my students.
The ones who understand how to leverage the power of story for internal transformation are empowered to make different choices. Their leadership transforms once their stories do.
It all starts with the stories we tell ourselves - and those we must consciously craft like a real craftsman would.
Often, I’ll journal on this: “What is a brave new story you will bury for a brave new story to come alive?”
Clarity follows.
Change feels right, not scary.
Actions from alignment compound into major growth.
There’s a whole lot more around this topic - this is a tiny morsel to wet your appetite.

“Everything happens for a reason” is something we hear a lot in the cancer world.
But honestly? That would be pretty f*cked up.
Illness isn’t fair. And it’s definitely not something anyone deserves.
So I brought this question to someone I deeply respect, @vikatalks . She’s a storyteller, narrative strategist, speaker, and one of those exceptional humans who helps people make sense of life’s most meaningful moments.
Because if anyone could help us see this differently, it would be her.

Can we live without words? Can we imagine that there are moments of non verbal experience that are equally valuable?
“ Not much exists in our day to day; moment to moment experience beyond words - and that’s a devastating thing.” says the man who created movement practice as we know it globally today.
His name is Ido Portal - and he is one of the most transformative minds of our time. From running his own capoeira studio at 15 to training the professional beasts of our times - Ido eats, lives, and breathes practice.
He’s poured 30 years of practice - and as many years teaching - to understand and develop movement as practice. The flat truth? There is no movement practice without uttering his name.
Beyond the many reasons he impacts universally is that the truth of who he is, is felt: he is master who is first a student, naturally. And that’s why he’s also a solid dialogue dance partner - listen to 1:47:49 to understand what he does.
May you savour this ViKA TALKS conversation - a tradition now- shot after I train inside Ido & Odelia’s two week movement training summer camp in Berlin.

How many conversations do you listen to that crack open your mind?
Imagine sitting down with Ido Portal for 2.5 hours and asking every curiosity. It’s like riding beside a wild beast of a mind - totally exhilarating and goes down as one of the most meaningful conversations of my life.
Ido is widely recognised as the founder of movement culture - and he’s impossible to define. For 30 years he’s trained thousands from MMA’s Connor McGregor to NBA, NFL, MLB & beyond with his signature methods.
For me, Ido isn’t just a master teacher - he’s a philosopher in disguise. Movement is the vehicle through which he teaches the philosophy of life. He does this with a level of care and genuine service that is unmatched.
This conversation is for those who seek to break conditioned ways of thinking, to understand how to interface with truths, how to sharpen one’s sword through practice. Above all, this is for those who are hungry for a taste of real transformation.
Legendary stories & absurdity await.
