What makes the Language in Community Festival special?
🤟🏼 Language focussed
We’re here to showcase the positive power of celebrating, maintaining and speaking the languages of our communities. Language helps us connect, understand, celebrate and show up for our communities. The festival is here to remind us of the myriad of opportunities, relationships and connections that languages can unlock, and help us be proud of it.
🙋🏻 Volunteer run
We’re a group of volunteers who are part of ViệtSpeak, a language education advocacy organisation made up of parents, teachers, academics, artists and community members. Working with Angliss Neighbourhood House to host the festival, we want community languages to thrive for the benefit of all, which is why we do what we do.
🎪 For and by community
The Language in Community Festival celebrates and spotlights people in our community, young and old. We’re here to hold up a mirror to the many talented and enthusiastic multilingual musicians, performers, school groups, language services, and community organisations in the places we live and work.
🤗 Participatory
Language is participatory and so is our festival! Audiences are invited to engage in many different ways: singing along, dancing along, partaking in workshops, having conversations with community groups, and meeting fellow festival goers.
