!! Update for May 4th !! The Empire must recognize the display of community support for Vidwest at their "rally." The Empire is not pleased with the profound advocacy for free speech... but there is nothing we can do. The rebels are overwhelming. But the fight is not over yet! More City Hall public hearings will be held in August and September, with the final decision for the budget on September 21st. If the rebels care so much about their puny community media center, they will continue supporting it. The Empire will remain greatly interested in this matter. Will you?

Vidwest runs a 3000 square foot studio 6 days a week with volunteers. The nonprofit media center has nearly 300 active members - residents, students, small businesses, nonprofits, etc - who start careers, grow the economy, fundraise and strengthen the civic fabric of our town through creative collaboration and education. The economic impact and equity of community media is tremendous. And yet, despite this outstanding work, the City has yet to resume funding for our media center for 2026/2027. So we dressed up as cartoon characters and made satire of the situation.

We have no choice but to take IMMEDIATE ACTION! Commander Vex Kordian will attend the Columbia City Hall Meeting on May 4th to advocate for the defunding of this disgusting media center! We wish you come in support of the empire! Or if you dare... come in support of Vidwest. It is time for you to stand firm on what you believe in!

We’re beyond excited to announce that we’ll be playing at Cafe Berlin on April 18th at 6PM in support of Vidwest Fest. 🎶✨ This one means a lot to me. 🤍 Truthfully, Double Helix would not exist without Vidwest. When I was first starting out in 2022, I had no idea what I was doing—no education, no equipment, no space to rehearse, no real starting point. Vidwest gave me that. And not just me, but so many creatives in this community. From rehearsal spaces to video, camera, and audio equipment, they’ve created an environment where people can actually learn, create, and grow without barriers 🎥🎧 That kind of space is rare, and it matters more than people realize. I would not be the creative I am without this space and the people in it. If you’ve supported me, my band, connected with our music, or believed in anything I’ve been so graciously part of as a creative, this is our chance to give back to something that made my dreams possible. 🙌🏽 Vidwest’s future may depend on city funding, and showing up matters right now — for me and the future education that could be jeopardized. Another huge shoutout to Adrienne @adrienneeluther and her team at Cafe Berlin for always opening their space for events that uplift and advocate for this community 🫶🏽 It truly doesn’t go unnoticed.
