AMBIENT MUSIC PAINTING sabukaru Meets Victor Takeru
Victor Takeru [@victortakeru ] is a young French-Japanese artist born in 1998 and raised in Paris. After studying Graphic Design, he decided to move and settle in Tokyo in 2019 at the age of 21. Where he began his career as a painter.
Inspired by ambient music since childhood and shaped by his surroundings, Victor Takeru creates work that feels deeply personal and intimate. It's a close-up not only of himself but also a glimpse into the mind of a young artist in search of self-acceptance. His art evokes a calm, melancholic atmosphere, often dominated by grey tones punctuated with occasional bursts of vivid color. Victor effortlessly weaves these influences together, crafting a visual language uniquely his own. Out of a desire to define his artistic identity, the concept of Ambient Music Painting was born.
Just like ambient music, Victor Takeru’s work is relatively flat and minimalist. His compositions are atmospheric and visual, yet discreet. Designed not to shout for attention but to create a quiet mood. He accepts that his work may not always be contemplative, sometimes it simply blends into its surroundings. But at the same time, he believes that someone could spend hours looking at one of his pieces, slowly feeling a range of emotions.
In this series of paintings, the idea of escape plays a central role. He often paints self-portraits where he turns his gaze away or leaves himself visually absent, giving a strong sense of withdrawing into oneself. Just like a cat which is reflected in the small ears stitched onto his camouflage caps highlighted in his work, Victor presents himself as solitary, thoughtful, and independent.
