Shostakovich' programme today 26th Oct 2025 at Templewood. 1st, 8th and 4th and Simon Parkin's S8G80. It was such a lovely venue to perform, it's chilly outside as late autumn but fireplace makes such a warm living room😍❤️🙏🏻 thank you very much those who came to listen!

It was actually a nice warm day, last Wednesday 1st Oct 2025 in Rhyl town hall. Our programme was Shostakovich No.4, Crisantemi by Puccini, S8G80 by Simon Parkin and Ravel SQ. We enjoyed performing there, and the audience particularly enjoyed Simon's piece S8G80. It's a piece composed for Edward Gregson's 80 years birthday early this year. Since he is a big fan of Schostakovich, there is a quotation from Schosta No.8 SQ and also the another quotation from Gregson's 2nd SQ. Of course there is some birthday tune (hidden...?) too. We are glad that the audience in Rhyl loved it😍❤️🤩

On 27th September 2025, we had a concert in Music in Burnham with Peter Hewitt (Pf) and Leon Bosch (Bass). Starting the programme by Mozart's Divertimento KV 136 D-major, Schostakovich SQ No.8 and finishing by Beethoven's Beautiful piano concerto No.3 with Peter Hewitt. Despite Ben's iPad pedal accident, we made it!! ☺️😇🤩 Special thanks for Ian Belton from Brodsky quartet to cover as 2nd violin today.

20th September 2025, Shostakovich No.4 SQ, Boccherini C-major quintet and Schubert quintet with Leo Popplewell. It was such a rainy day in Bollington... ☔ ☔ ☔ Despite bad weather, we had enthusiastic full audience there, and wonderful repertoire to share with them😍😚 It was such a pleasure to be there, and thank you very much having us @bollingtonchamberconcerts !!

We have just finished our recording of pieces by Thomas B.Pitfield, Randall Thompson, John Grier, Sasha Johnson Manning, Debussy and L.A. Bourgault-Ducoudray with Recorder player John Turner, Pianist David and bassist Jamie!! We have also recorded the pieces by Gordon Crosse last Wednesday too.
Overall we came across 20 pieces together passed 2 weeks 😎😶😜

8-10 May 2025 Norfolk and Burnham Overy (via Cromer and South Creake)
On the 8th May, we worked Octet by Mendelssohn with young students in Norwich school in Norfolk. After having individual working sessions, we performed it as an informal concert in the chapel, then again as a part of our concert on 10th in Burnham Market. Mendelssohn composed that piece like their age about 16 years old, it's an energetic work.
We also performed Brahms's Clarinet quintet with John Bradbury, clarinet. There aren't many compositions written for Clarinet with strings but this is one of the few masterpieces.
Thank you very much for having us Music in the Burnhams, and once again well done for the students who performed Mendelssohn Octet with us. They prepared that pieces since last September (this piece is 35 mins length / 4 movements!! ) , which was huge effort for both students / professors in Norwich school. It is wonderful to share music with different generations.

In Wirral, 3rd May 2025
Haydn op.1-1, Shostakovich No.4 and Ravel. We celebrated 150th anniversary for Ravel, it's one of masterpieces for string quartet. We had lovely audience in Wirral as Neston Music festival, enjoyed performing so much. Such a lovely venue too. Great weather, marvelous music, nice people. Thank you very much for welcoming us in Wirral!

Manchester Midday Music presents: New Music in the North West 2025
Applications for our 2025 Composers’ Workshop are now open!
📆 Closing Date: 23:59, Friday 21 March 2025
🎻 Successful applicants will be invited to write a new 5-minute work for string quartet to be workshopped and performed by the @victoria_string_quartet in Manchester in June 2025. There are 4 places available for composers.
Compositions should be either i) a pre-existing work which has yet to receive a public performance, or ii) a new composition. Compositions should be no longer than 5 minutes in length. We welcome submissions from anyone who is aged 18+ currently living, working, or studying in the North West.
