“Two Voices, One Rhythm” A collaborative artist book I partnered with fabulous artist @vickyhoffmanart Vicky Hoffman to create. An original, one of a kind, art book filled with mixed media collages created in a true call-and-response exchange. Come see this at the Start Up Art Fair LA — starting February 27. Room 202 at Startup Art Fair LA showcases approximately 90 collaborative artist books created by 190 artists who were randomly paired in October 2025. Four months. Two strangers per book. Works that neither artist could have made alone. From India to Iowa, Germany to the United Arab Emirates—artists navigated time zones, shipping logistics, language barriers, and completely different creative approaches to build something together. Oracle decks. Teabag weavings. Painted photographs. Visual puzzles. Sculptural books. Accordion volumes. ✨ PLUS: Live Exquisite Corpse Zine Making! Collaborative zine-making sessions throughout the weekend. Fair visitors can create exquisite corpse style artworks together. After some light sanding and applying painted perm papers, I felt I successfully reduced the bleeding from the spray varnish. Here is "Addendum 6" with the other 5 assembled. Similar to the rest of Organized Chaos (36 artworks), there is a connecting line across all 6 pieces. #abstractartwork #womenartists #contemporaryartwork #artcollectors #laartist

Artist process: I thought the work was complete so I gave a light spray of varnish. To my surprise, the oil-based pen work in black started to bleed. I often use a spray varnish but this time I used Krylon as the art store no longer carries Golden. Apparently there’s a solvent in the pen that interacts with the solvent in Krylon; not with Golden! So I sprayed even more varnish (last image) to see if I could get dramatic drips. Well that didn’t work either. Next possible solution is to toss the work on 300 lb. Arches into the trash or cut it up in pieces and reassemble. That makes me whimper. Today I’m painting and creating my own paper. Once it dries, I’ll take a look to see if that’s a solution to hide or disguise the bleed. What I don’t like is the muddy grayish layer on the green. Yesterday I completed Q1 (12”x12”)of a 4 quarter project. It’s a quirky project with each 1”x1” square representing a day in the quarter…kind of like a diary or calendar. Why do this project?
