“Miss America! Miss WORLD!” was how he would greet me when I entered the room.
The most generous man I knew. Brightest smile and the most contagious laugh.
He believed in everyone relentlessly. With only a 5th grade education, he relocated his family to the US, started and ran his business for years (selling only to retire this past October) and became one of the most learned and well-rounded individuals. He was a life-long learner, advocating for the importance of education.
He never got the privilege of formal education, so he fought for everyone else’s right for it.
To honor his life, take that class you’ve been on the fence about. Listen to that audiobook that piqued your interest. Email the professor of your local college and ask to audit that class you couldn’t take due to credit/pricing. Pick up the book on your nightstand that’s collecting dust.
