We're delighted to have been featured in @thestageuk ! 🥳 Bard in the Bookshop is about to do its 8th showing, Hamlet 💀 and it'll be our biggest one yet with 15 actors in a more immersive than ever @waterstonesgowerstreet . Our Artistic Director Victoria Gartner @vicgartner told the Stage: 'The bookshop, the actors and the audiences - willing or unwilling - form a symbiotic and magical relationship, surprising every time. We are also all rediscovering how little you need to actually perform Shakespeare... words, imagination, and most importantly: soul.' Tickets for Hamlet are at the link in bio ☝️

A huge thank you to the @bsashakespeare for supporting our performance research on 'Shakespeare's emotional sound' in @smallhythe_placent , the home of actress Ellen Terry. @vicgartner led the actors through explorations of Shakespeare's rhythms and melodies, and further research will be undertaken soon. Let us know if you're interested in joining in and exploring together! Read up about it here: https://www.britishshakespeare.ws/bsa-small-grants-fund-reports-on-performances/

I can't believe it's the last few days of the run of 🇺🇦 Ukraine Unbroken 🕊️ There are so many people to thank for their trust, hard work and soul generosity in telling those stories. A huge thank you to the mastermind behind this project, the inimitable Nicolas Kent of course. Thank you for trusting me with one of these incredible plays... 'Three Mates' by Natalka Vorozhbyt, a powerful account of a man struggling with the scale of cowardice, translated poignantly by Sasha Dugdale. Thank you to @ianbonar for carrying this piece so muscularly, tenderly and with such an open heart. Thank you @jadecarolinewillie for throwing yourself out there with us and holding this story with the heart and precision that you do. Thank you @marina.kursik for being a diva, @mariampetrovska for your stunning lyrical art and storytelling. Thank you Nae, Ryan and Patrick for all your hard work and for ordering the right playing cards. Thank you @claraevangelineread and Jade for the medovik. Thank you to the entire creative team (@joejohndines , @rebecca_ward_design , @lexacution to name-drop a few) and the fabulous team at the @arcolatheatre . And finally... Thank you to you all for coming to see it. I know we're all news-weary right now. I know the world is an overwhelming and frightening place at times. But theatre has the power to remind us that we're not alone. That there are a lot of people out there who are fighting for change - positive change. That we can always embrace more compassion. And that every day, ordinary people do extraordinary things. Слава Україні! 🇺🇦🕊️

The fantastic company of Bard in the Bookshop's 📚 As You Like It 🎭 snapped by the multi-talented @christophercommander (and a few action shots of yours truly - directing is basically sitting down and listening to people with your ears, eyes and heart). What a consistent and renewed joy this project is, bringing people together around the fun and workout that is Shakespeare. It is teaching me many things about how to share the Bard's words with soul, about the intricacies and power of the plays and about why the only thing you truly need for it to work... Is a company that breathes together and is united in their wish to share a powerful and arresting story. We're presenting Richard II in April and Hamlet in May - check in out at @willshakesandco - link in bio. And as usual, a huge thank you to @waterstonesgowerstreet @waterstones for hosting us and trusting us with their phenomenal space and this project.

🇺🇦 Ukraine Unbroken 🕊️ @arcolatheatre Today is day 1444 of the fullscale invasion. Ukraine Unbroken is an incredible project devised by Nicolas Kent: 5 plays by leading UK and Ukrainian playwrights about parts of the story we don't know so well in the West. As Associate Director, it's my absolute honour, pleasure and privilege to be helping to bring these urgent stories to life. A phenomenal cast of actors and @mariampetrovska on the bandura, Ukraine's national instrument. Come join us at the Arcola this March! Bisous.

Episode 4 of 'Why Shakespeare?' is out! Tune in at the link in bio for a chat with playwright @playwrightkenludwig about learning Shakespeare by heart, writing books to introduce Shakespeare to children and donating a very generous amount to the @shakespearebtrust to save Hall's Croft. /podcasts/why-shakespeare

For some reason, this feels like the appropriate time to share these pictures of me and Brenda the bear on stage by @elliottdavisphotography . Must be the Leo new moon and Imbolc conjunction.

Episode 3 of my podcast 🎤 'Why Shakespeare?' is with the wonderful actor Lucy Tregear. You might have seen her in @themousetrapofficial recently, or touring in 'And Then There Were None' around the UK last year, or perhaps even heard her narrate an audiobook or have had her as one of your LAMDA examiners... Lucy and I talk open-heartedly about Shakespeare's sexy sonnets, a career spent playing Shakespeare's women, and why the Bard should perhaps NOT be mandatory in schools. Give the podcast a listen at the link in my bio ☝️ And watch out for the next episode, coming this Sunday! 🫰 Ps. I'm going to get better at releasing these because I've got an editor now, the wonderful Shirley Furman! 🌟 Bisous.
