1 week ago today, Vice Versa Collective members guided audience members though building an interactive tapestry of yarn at our Freedom of Movement show. Thank you to Dan, Asia, Lindsay, our audience, and @theperch_musicandarts_workshop for hosting us! And shout out to our Technical Director @bsweeney.mus for these photos. More to come…

Last nights interactive multidisciplinary art performance with @vice_versa.co at @theperch_musicandarts_workshop was something special. It was a true honor to collaborate with @feelthekeys , @walking_singing and the folks of @vice_versa.co … it felt so natural and in flow. We met loosely online to develop our concept, but the performance really came together between 4pm Friday afternoon and when the performance began 7pm Saturday night. We stepped into the unknown together with our audience/participants and something magical unfolded. Big gratitude for everyone who came out, supported our art and participated in a unique community experience. More to come! #interdisciplinaryartists #phillyartscene

Our last feature before our show on the 7th at @theperch_musicandarts_workshop , is for Asia Mielesko! Go check out her page to learn more! And check out our bio for tickets to the show! Joanna (Asia) Mieleszko is a singer, conductor, protector of the (very) old, and pioneer of the daringly new. Recent highlights include premiering Hannah Barnes’ The Garden at The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology, joining the Cortona Sessions for New Music as a 2024 vocal fellow, workshopping “Across Tongues,” an audio-visual interrogation of third culture as a 2023/24 New Jersey Folk Festival Artist-in-Residence, and performing programs of Ukrainian village polyphony at the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. With musical roots in both Eastern European folk music and the classical tradition, Asia’s noise-making oscillates between these musical conventions and, on occasion, bridges them. She’s looking forward to repeating “Across Tongues” in Philadelphia, bringing her one-woman show, “Duets for Solo Performer,” to Oh My Ears Festival in Arizona, and continuing her studies in the musical traditions of Ukraine’s villages.

This week we’re featuring another artist, Lindsay, on our March 7th Philly show! Check out our bio for the link to tickets. Lindsay Luna is a multidisciplinary artist, holistic wellness educator and coach, energy healer, psychic medium and death doula. She bridges creativity with ancient wisdom traditions to support people on their journey of awakening and transformation. Lindsay’s art is an exploration of the metaphysical and natural worlds, inviting the viewer to walk the edge between realities to wake up to a deeper connection with themselves and all of life.

Leading up to our show in Philadelphia, we’ll be doing a weekly feature on each of the artists creating/performing at the show. This week features @feelthekeys , Vice Versa founder. Daniel Townsend is a composer, pianist, and educator living in New York City. He recently earned a PhD in music composition from the University of Florida. His recent musical works explore the delicate balance between composition and improvisation by inviting performers to engage in the creative process during live performances. Some sections of his music provide specific instructions regarding rhythms, notes, and dynamics, while others encourage performers to make decisions about expressive elements using graphic notation, text-based instructions, or alternative symbols. Since graduating, Dan teaches private piano, theory, and composition lessons and works part-time at two elementary schools teaching general music and choir electives. Additionally, he accompanies dancers at prestigious institutions such as the Joffrey Ballet, Steps on Broadway, Gibney, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and NYU.

Last night Vice Versa joined the @nelsonatkins in their Night-Shift event. It was an amazing night filled with art, improvisation, and new friends. Our gallery and improvs focused on the many different aspects of water: from its tranquil and serene qualities to its more destructive and dangerous ones. Thank you to all who helped make this event happen and to our wonderfully talented musicians and dancers :)
