In honor of reaching 100k views on YouTube, here’s some awesome spoiler-heavy BTS of The Sleepover as well as a sappy caption :)
It’s been 4 years since
@christinathoffman and I came up with the idea while on vacation. This project has been in the background of so many important moments of my life: moving to LA, graduating, figuring out gender, heartbreak, unemployment, moving back to Spain, etc.
February marked two years since we filmed it. Even though I’ve said it a million times I could say it a million more and it wouldn’t be enough, thank you so so SO much to everyone that worked on this film and those who supported it in a million different ways behind the scenes, it genuinely saved my life by keeping me busy at a time where everything seemed to crumble around me.
This level of complexity and magnitude on a tight budget wouldn’t have been possible without every department being on top of it, which I’m so thankful for everyone doing so. There were a million times this project could have fallen apart, and on set, as we were all tired and cold from overnights, there were times I thought we weren’t gonna finish it. But besides being talented and hardworking, this cast and crew was also incredibly resilient.
Looking back I definitely bit more than I could chew on this project, evidenced by the chugging of red bulls and DayQuil I had to do at midnight 4 days in a row because my anxiety for the shoot left me debilitatingly ill on day 1. If I hadn’t been surrounded by my favorite people who all believed in this project just as much as I did, I would’ve been the first to call it quits for sure. There are a ton of things I wish I did differently, actually almost everything, but with time I’ve allowed myself some grace, because of course I’d do things differently now, that’s the beauty of this project, it taught me a million lessons.
The burnout from handling such an intense project is still something I’m struggling with, but what keeps me hopeful that one day I will feel ready to make another project is that I’m excited to continue learning, continue making mistakes, and continuing to work with these amazing people down the line.
