Watching how members use their shelves over at ViaClay on Marion, I know that every square inch is important. When starting the design process for the building in Forest Park, John and I wanted to provide larger shelving units. We took the number of members per unit from 4 down to 3, resulting in 70% larger shelves volumetrically and making both the top and bottom shelves more accessible.
Building the shelves has been fun but what’s going to be even more exciting is watching members fill them up! #viaclay #potterystudio #forestpark
Lighting a space with such tall ceiling was an interesting challenge. Getting the warmth and balance just right was very important to me, and I’m very happy with the results. Placing the lights between the rafters in the 12’ ceiling section helped soften the light angles and reduce shadows. An essential step towards making pots in the space!

ViaClay is growing! The ViaClay Member Studio is moving to a new building in Forest Park in the first months of 2026!
After months of searching, we are thrilled to have finally found a new location for our expansion plans in Forest Park. 7744 Monroe, formerly home to a light manufacturing business, will be converted to a 6,000 square foot light-filled open-plan studio for artists who subscribe to ViaClay’s membership program and prefer self-directed work with clay. With more opportunities for self-expression needed now more than ever, it’s personally rewarding to see our community grow. John and I and all the ViaClay teachers are very excited to expand our ability to provide a safe and encouraging space for everyone. We plan a January 2026 opening for the new Forest Park studio, and we will begin to offer expanded class sizes in the first quarter of the new year in Oak Park at our original studios on Marion Street.
This Friday we will be hosting our annual summer pottery sale in conjunction with our first ever student pottery show. Please stop by on Friday from 5pm - 7pm to check out the amazing work from students in adult classes. The pottery sale continues on Saturday from 10am - 3pm.
