Thank you to everyone who submitted memories and shared our posts of Victoria-Fraserview. We received so many heartfelt responses that captured the warmth and liveliness of the neighbourhood. Your generosity means the world🌎🫶
Since this outreach began, the neighbourhood has already seen change. The Starbucks on 49th (aka 88 Supermarket) has closed. When I stopped by to drop off a poster a few weeks ago, the space was FULL of seniors chatting over their daily coffee.
Victoria-Fraserview doesn’t have a municipal community centre or many third spaces. There are few locations in the area where people can gather at little to no cost, and chain coffee shops often fill that gap — especially for seniors. I’m hopeful a new cafe will open, or that the seniors will adapt and cleverly find another gathering place — which they almost always do.
As change continues, the Google Form will remain live, though it will be monitored less frequently.

⭐ Natalie Murao is a filmmaker who grew up in the Victoria–Fraserview neighbourhood. With support from the Canada Council for the Arts, she's currently creating a short documentary and community art project celebrating the vibrant and diverse experiences of this area.
⭐ The project gathers personal memories to create a collective portrait of Victoria–Fraserview that is shaped by the people who have lived in, worked in, or frequently visited the neighbourhood over the years.
⭐ Anyone connected to the neighbourhood is warmly invited to contribute a memory. Whether it’s a favourite place, an everyday routine, a moment of kindness, or something that has changed over time.

Was sad to see most of the posters that were put up yesterday were removed 😔 But the outreach continues!
My mood was instantly boosted upon arriving at the South Van. Neighbourhood House. They invited me to speak about the project to the intercultural wellness seniors group, followed by a delicious hot lunch ☺️ Thank you @southvannh and Stefan for your generosity!! SVNH is truly a special place in the community 🫶
