Northern Light ✨
A Traver & Vetri Gallery Project at West Canal Yards
📍Opening Reception: May 2, 3–5 pm
Join us for the opening of Northern Light Saturday, May 2 from 3–5 pm.
The featured painting by Joe Shlichta, Ever After, will be featured in the exhibition alongside sculptural work by Matt Sellars.
Schlichta’s work explores how tone and value construct and disrupt a sense of space. Built through layered passages of paint and direct brushwork, the surface suggests landscape without fixing it. Hints of desert, plant forms, and sky emerge through shifting geometry, allowing the image to move between structure and openness.
Northern Light will be on view from May 2–30, 2026. Join us for the opening in the gallery space above Traver Gallery. 💗
Northern Light
Matt Sellars & Joe Shlichta
A Traver & Vetri Gallery Project at West Canal Yards
📍Opening Reception: May 2, 3–5 pm
This piece, Formation by Matt Sellars, will be featured in Northern Light, alongside oil paintings by Joe Shlichta.
Matt Sellars carved wood sculptures originate in the stark luminosity of West Texas, where intense light flattens distance and sharpens contrast. Drawing from desert landscapes—agave against open sky, eroded rock formations, and remnants of natural processes—Sellars creates forms that hover between organic and architectural. His use of applied color interacts with the wood’s inherent grain, introducing an element of chance that mirrors the forces of erosion and transformation found in nature. The resulting works embody a dynamic tension between machined control and the unpredictable effects of time and environment.
On view May 2 through May 30, 2026,
Traver Gallery & Vetri is pleased to co-present Northern Light, a two-person exhibition featuring works by Joe Shlichta and Matt Sellars. 📍Opening Saturday, May 2nd from 3–5pm.
This exhibition brings together paintings by Shlichta and sculptural carving by Sellars in a shared investigation of light, perception, and the shifting boundaries between natural and constructed space.
Though working in distinct media, both artists engage with light as an active, elusive force—one that shapes experience while resisting capture. Across the exhibition, light is not only a subject but a material condition: destabilizing form, compressing or expanding space, and heightening the tension between precision and unpredictability.

LUKE JACOMB STUDIO | Cast Glass Birds
A small restock of select glass birds from Luke Jacomb Studio is now available on our website.
Each bird is created using the lost wax casting method, a labor-intensive process that takes many days from inception to completion. From sculpting and mold-making through casting and cold-working, every stage is completed by hand. Subtle variations in form and surface reflect the handmade nature of each piece.
Based in Aotearoa New Zealand, Luke Jacomb and partner Tara lead a small team of artists working from two private Auckland studios. All works are handcrafted start to finish in-house.

Erica Rosenfeld lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She uses glass, found materials, and beads to create sculpture and jewelry inspired by Mid Century Modern and early Viennese design. Each piece is made from blown, hot worked, and carved glass. She blows and fuses glass canes, then slices, carves, and stitches the parts together with seed beads. Her cane and jewelry series shift every six months, so the work always stays fresh.
